I realized the so-called leather bags claimed and sold by many brands were nothing but a highly processed PU. As they say, “You learn from bad experience”. Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Mudit Agarwal: Trees cannot be saved by writing ‘SAVE TREES’ on paper, which is also made by chopping down trees. That is paradoxical. I have always believed that there is an alternative to everything and wood is no exception. It is only in the year 2010 that I got to know about the uses/features of bamboo after my late uncle offered me a job at his company that manufactures bamboo plyboards in Arunachal Pradesh. Looking at the opportunities and future scope that bamboo offers, I decided to start out on my own and thus, in the year 2013 GrassPly was born. We were a trading company initially and switched to manufacturing in FY20-21. We are driven by our vision to be an environment friendly company. Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? D R Sree Latha Vasisht: Our story goes back to 2011 when me and my better half started a tiny venture in the HVAC industry. Initially, we began with servicing of domestic air-conditioners. Gradually, we forayed into industrial HVAC projects. In 2017, we were approached by one of our acquaintances regarding HVLS FANS. The first impression was that they were highly expensive for the Indian market. However, we took a chance and began our research about these fans as its newness caught our attention. Secondly, our love for travel took us to Singapore where we encountered these huge lovely fans and our research doubled. Subsequently, one of our clients was looking for HVLS Fans. And, we had no other option but to begin as dealers of another company to provide our client what they were looking for. We were on a marketing spree and during our visits to various industries, prospective clients whom we approached threw light on the cost as well as the weight of the fans and opined that these fans were not feasible for MSMEs for their roof structures were not capable enough of holding these heavyweight fans firstly and secondly they were really expensive. That was the dawn of realization and it proved to be a beacon of light and hope. We decided that we would come up with less weight, less cost HVLS Fans especially for the MSME sector and Aadhya Airtek was born after almost two and a half years of R&D. Our near and dear ones too took a step back to support us as they felt that the timing was not appropriate – It was during the pandemic period. However, the biggest challenge I must admit was to educate and create awareness about the product and its benefits when we stepped in initially. Majority of them were awestruck that there could be one such product. We were equally happy when we were told that our product was unique. We are pleased to mention that we were asked whether we were ready to be acquired or enter into a joint venture by one of our first clients since we were in our infancy and facing a lot of struggles. We understood that our product is here to stay. We sensed a great opportunity amidst adversity. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for Aadhya Airtek? D R Sree Latha Vasisht: At present we are based in Bengaluru, Karnataka and hence, we are focusing on expanding our distribution channels in order to mark our presence across the nation. We are also working on developing and extending our product lines and segments in order to reach a wider audience and penetrate into the market as a household name 5 years down the line. However, our vision is to Go Glocal by 2030 and top the global chart among green air solution providers fostering entrepreneurial spirit among women. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? D R Sree Latha Vasisht: May I please differ? I am sorry but I don’t believe in giving advice. During my MBA program we were introduced to strategies in the first year. I always wondered if there could be a universal strategy because at the end of the day it’s business. But then, there is no place for USPs and differentiators. The truth is that what works or worked for me might not work for others and vice versa. Therefore, I would like to put it across as our experience or our observation or simply what steps we took as a start-up. The first thing that we did as both life and business partners was to be open to learning and learn from each other, be flexible, be a go-giver, share each other’s similarities and celebrate the differences which definitely proved to be an advantage for our start up especially being a go-giver. The second thing was, we started our company during the pandemic and hence, we had to be intelligent emotionally, be resilient and believe in ourselves and our idea. Daily I used to spend hours on studying different businesses but I only used to find negativities in all the businesses. WHY? Because, I myself was in my comfort zone. So until I quit my job and came back home nothing really worked. The day I came back, I was out of my comfort zone, it was like fire under my ass. So next day over a cup of tea; my father said why don't you start with Granites and Marbles Business. That was the time when I started thinking straight like an Entrepreneur and made a firm decision of starting an Import Export Business. As I liked traveling a lot, exploring new places and culture, meeting new people. I thought I would really enjoy International Business. Coming from a middle class family i was in need of money, luxury and everything so badly. I came across this Documentary (THE SECRET) which changed my life. I started practicing it on a daily basis and it worked. I named my company ROKKAMINT which means ROKKA means Money (In Kannada Language) and MINT means Printing (In English language) ROKKAMINT means Money Printing. Because when I started that's what my focus was on. Though later on things changed. But what is important is to know whether or not these words describe the intention, the motive and objective of Startoon. Let’s find out. ‘Startoon Labs’ is a medtech company that specializes in manufacturing devices to track and monitor the recovery of patients. Patients going through physiotherapy sessions, patients recovering from certain neurological or musculo-skeletal disorders or patients with any other muscular injuries. Startoon came into existence, in Hyderabad, in 2017, through the minds of Suresh Susurla and Mythreyi Susurla. Both of them, alumni of IIT and IIM, with the soul aim of revolutionizing physiotherapy and filling the gaps in this area of healthcare by the use of technology. RECOVERY DISCOVERY During a session at CAHOTECH (Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organization) 2019, CEO Suresh Susurla gave a speech/presentation for Startoon where he briefly pointed out two problems, or to be specific two limitations, of the conventional physiotherapy centers or rehabilitation centers. First, whenever physiotherapy is done its mostly performed under the supervision of an expert. But the issue with this process is that sometimes human errors might occur during the therapy and there is no technology to catch the error and report it. Hence, almost all the human inaccuracies and errors go unnoticed. Another problem with the conventional physiotherapy methods which was pointed out was the movement of other parts of the body with the movement of limbs. Simply putting, when physiotherapy for hands is underway, we shouldn’t move our back, even to the slightest angle. And again, this goes unnoticed. Now, Startoon promises to deliver it here and fill this specific gap of inaccuracy. “Even a single unit of inaccuracy is unacceptable” - this is the overall message that the product PHEEZEE gives us. This new discovery in the arena of medical recovery sets new standards for physiotherapy procedures. THE PRODUCT ‘PHEEZEE’ is a portable device, wearable on the six different major joints of the patient who is going through physiotherapy. As mentioned, this device doesn’t compromise on accuracy, it has a least count of 1 degree and it can accurately quantify the movement of each and every muscle involved in the movement. Coming to the tracking and monitoring part of the invention - PHEEZEE, the device is connected to a tablet, and sends all the data regarding the various movements of the joints and then the data is analyzed and an evidence-based report is generated which is then presented in the form of a graphical presentation. This presentation along with the graphs can accurately quantify and assess the recovery of the patient on a weekly, monthly basis. The device also gives a real time biofeedback of range of motion and electromyogram (EMG) of the recruited muscle. What is also important regarding this graphical representation of recovery is that it acts as a moral support, as a confidence building machine for the patients. In conventional physiotherapy centers, this kind of an accurate and scientific report is absent, hence patients are least informed about the technicalities of their recovery. At a cost which is way lesser than the conventional existing machines and technologies, PHEEZEE promises to be a value for money product with the best of the features available in the arena of physiotherapy.
