Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
Charu Gupta: Leather handbags were always my weakness. This idea of having my brand of premium leather bags struck due to a bad experience with one of the handbag brands. The expensive so-called leather bag I purchased started to frail away only after using it 2-3 times. I realized the so-called leather bags claimed and sold by many brands were nothing but a highly processed PU. As they say, “You learn from bad experience”. I applied this learning to build a brand selling premium quality genuine leather bags and accessories, thereby helping our customers choose the right product for their hard-earned money. Kargha India products are made of genuine leather available at a very competitive price compared to the market. That’s what gave birth to Kargha India- An expression of you.

Charu Gupta: Kargha India offers a wide range of premium leather products like Laptop Bags, Handbags, Sling Bags, Travel Bags, Clutches, Wallets and Belts, and other leather accessories. Our business model caters to both B2C and B2B requirements. We do manufacture customized products for bulk corporate orders.
Great Companies: What makes Kargha India different from hundreds of other similar service providers?
Charu Gupta:
Quality and Elegance are the two aspects we don’t compromise on. We are proud to be associated with Make in India and Vocal for local campaign. Also, our carefully curated and aesthetically handcrafted designs harmoniously blend elegance with function. We at Kargha India want to provide a range of leather products to our customers at a very competitive price. There are very few brands dealing with genuine leather products.
However, due to the high price point, these products are unaffordable for many. Thus, it is an effort of Kargha India to provide high-quality leather products which are mostly exported to other countries to our Indian customers.
Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face?
Charu Gupta: “If there is no struggle, there is no success”. Challenges are a part of any business. Born and bought up in a service class family, I did not have an idea about the business and its nitty-gritty. Thanks to my husband, who always supported and motivated me. A lot of groundwork was done initially to understand the market, process, availability of finest quality raw material, and finding finest artisans. We visited countless websites, many cities including Kanpur, Kolkata, Agra, and Jaipur. We visited tanneries to understand how leather is processed from raw material to a fully processed one. Initially, we faced problems in the manufacturing part as it’s not very easy to set up a unit. We joined hands with a few manufacturers to get our designs to turn into a reality. But we still faced issues. Now we have dedicated craftsmen who work only for Kargha India turning our dreams into a reality. We are always learning to make ourselves better each day. Our struggles and challenges have always helped us learn and grow for the better.
Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What do 5 years down the line look like for Kargha India?
Charu Gupta: Our vision is to become India’s leading, most trusted, and loved premium leather handbag brands. We plan to grow Kargha India to take Kargha India products to every part of India. We are working on B2B and B2C models currently. Down the line, we would be standing amongst a few of the known brands in India. We are focusing on building a digital presence through our social network, which has already started us giving visibility. Down the line, we don’t want to cater to only the Indian market but to take our Indian products to international markets also.
Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting, what would it be?
Charu Gupta: Work hard, Be open to new ideas! Face the challenges as a learning opportunity, it will surely lead you to success. Get yourself registered with the government MSME scheme as they provide many opportunities to support new businesses. Get connected to people around you and, you will feel the difference. Also, promote yourself through Social media and Print media.
