Laurie Fraser:  In 2015, the concept of bringing healthy meals to senior citizens to help them stay happier, safer, and longer in their homes was born. Initially, we operated out of a shared kitchen and started serving clients. One of our clients requested a catered breakfast, but as both owners were working full-time, we initially declined. However, the client persisted, and we eventually catered French pastry tarts and fruit. The response was overwhelming, and phone calls started pouring in. Within three months, we transitioned to full-time catering. The market told us what it wanted, and we followed. Today, we are proud to be the largest woman-owned catering company in Lincoln, NE. Laurie Fraser:  We offer a range of services from a la carte to full-service catering, specializing in thematic events. We provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner for corporate clients, non-profits, as well as banquets and weddings. Great Companies: What makes Doorstep Diner Catering different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Laurie Fraser:  We are thematic. If you can dream it, we can theme it. When hosting an event, clients often have a vision, and we work with them to bring it to life. From menu design to visual elements, we are known for embracing themes. Whether it’s Rock-a-Billy or Great Gatsby, we go the extra mile—even dressing in theme—to make the event unforgettable. Great Companies: What were the struggles and challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them? Laurie Fraser:  One of our primary struggles was rapid growth. The community’s warm reception caught us off guard. While we excelled at cooking, our operating procedures were not standardized. Although we never failed a client, we realized the importance of implementing proper systems to maintain smooth back-of-house operations. In 2023, one of my business partners, who was in charge of operations, stepped down. This created a leadership vacuum that I had to fill. It was a challenging period, but it allowed me to identify gaps in accountability, food costs, and day-to-day operations. By breaking down our systems and rebuilding them, we emerged with streamlined operations. As we enter our 10th year, we are now more efficient and prepared for growth. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does five years down the line look like for Doorstep Diner Catering? Laurie Fraser:  As we celebrate our 10th year, we are thrilled about what lies ahead! We are revamping our menu with a focus on creating "experiences" and staying aligned with nationwide trends. We are currently in the research and development phase, focusing on scalability, cost, transport, and presentation. Additionally, we are preparing to launch a new website featuring brand-new options that our clients will love. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice for someone just starting out, what would it be? Laurie Fraser:  Do your homework. While passion is essential, the business operations side is just as crucial as the product or service you provide. Seek a mentor in your industry, conduct market research, and ensure you have an accountant and an attorney. Write a detailed business plan. Just like navigating a ship at sea, a clear plan will help you set goals and objectives for growth.

Deepali Pandey:  I completed my Bachelor's in Architecture from GCA Lucknow, where my primary focus was designing in harmony with nature. After passing the GATE examination, I pursued a Master’s in Landscape Architecture at the prestigious School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. During my studies, I worked on several master planning projects at urban, domestic, and regional levels. My hard work was recognized when I was awarded the Gold Medal for the Best Outgoing Student and the Narendra Juneja Gold Medal for the Best Thesis Project in 2011. After gaining eight years of experience with two of India’s most prominent landscape architecture firms, I decided to start my own firm, A+D Design Studio. This decision was driven by my extensive design experience in hotels, resorts, residential developments, and collaborations with foreign architects and private developers. Landscape architecture emphasizes the vital relationship between people and the environment. As global populations grow, the strain on resources and the urgency to preserve the environment increases. The discipline addresses critical issues such as climate change, pollution, and the protection of natural resources like wetlands. These challenges inspired me to establish A+D Design Studio. Our projects span from large-scale master planning to small urban interventions, all aimed at promoting social engagement and ecological balance.
