  • Razak Mohammad Ali, Co-Founder at Altnix LLC

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Razak Mohammad Ali: We discovered the idea for our business when we were talking to IT managers handling IT infrastructure at various organizations. Cost of software tools was a concern for them and were exploring options to reduce the cost of licenses as much as possible. We knew that open source software offers the lowest possible license cost. Hence we ventured into specializing in open source solutions for our clients. Altnix today provides many open source solutions for a variety of use cases that solve challenges in handling or managing the IT infrastructure. Great Companies: What are the various services provided by Altnix LLC? Razak Mohammad Ali: Altnix provides Consulting, Implementation, and Professional services for Managing IT infrastructure using open source solutions. This includes IT monitoring, Automation, IT Service Management, IT Analysis and IT operations use cases. We specialize in helping companies through the entire journey of adopting open source solutions at their organizations for the long term. We can manage traditional on-premises infrastructure as well as next generation Cloud platforms such as Amazon AWS, Azure Cloud and Private Clouds. Great Companies: What makes Altnix LLC different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Razak Mohammad Ali: While many service providers exist, Altnix is unique in the sense that we understand IT infrastructure in-depth along with open source software that can be used to manage such infrastructure. Very few competitors are able to offer such a mix of open source and infrastructure expertise. Great Companies: What were the struggles and challenges you faced and how did you overcome them? Razak Mohammad Ali: Initially many customers we talked to typically did not understand the methodology for using Open source solutions especially for Infrastructure Management. The adoption trajectories for Open Source is very different from Enterprise proprietary software that require licenses. Hence there was nervousness or reluctance to adopt solutions we propose. We spent significant time in Education, Training and Consulting with clients on allaying their concerns on venturing into relatively unknown open source solutions. Once we started to show success at key organizations, other clients were easier to convince. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for Altnix LLC? Razak Mohammad Ali: Our prediction is that the journey towards Open Source is inevitable for most organizations. It is going to be just a matter of time before all organizations use Open Source in one form or another. Market dynamics, Technology maturity of Open Source solutions and macroeconomic factors such as geo-political turmoil, inflation and high cost of technical resources are all driving clients towards Open Source options. We are expecting a 10x growth in our business and our team in the next 5 years. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Razak Mohammad Ali: If you are venturing out new, be open in your mind. Listen to your Customers very carefully and adapt your solutions to meet their needs. Services industry is all about listening to the customer and providing a service or a product that meets their needs. If you stop listening to your customers, your business will die quickly.

  • Babita Khanna, Founder & CEO at Bee Celebration

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Babita Khanna : I am very fond of scented candles. Once I was travelling back from Canada and got a beautiful Rose flavored Beeswax Candle. I really liked the fragrance and tried to purchase the same in Delhi NCR. But to my surprise I could get paraffin candles, some stores had soy wax candles also but couldn't find Beeswax candles even in renowned stores. There I saw a big opportunity in the scented beeswax candles business in India. Great Companies: What are the various services provided by Bee Celebration? Babita Khanna: Bee Celebration produces very high-quality Beeswax Aromatherapy Candles with essential oils. We have got 6 fragrances in scented candles category i.e. Morning Rose, Forest Lavender, Indian Jasmine, Fresh Lemongrass, Ylang Ylang and Divine Lotus. Soon we are introducing a spice range which would again use only essential oils for fragrance and no chemicals. These fragrances are Spicy Orange, Vanilla, Vanilla Cinnamon and Cedar wood Clove. We are also introducing Mosquito Repellent Candle which would be made of herbs, beeswax and essential oils only. This mosquito repellent candle would be made with natural ingredients only and would be safe for kids and people allergic to chemical scents. Apart from this we have got Puja Category. The Puja Category contains 3 products which are Durga Saptshati Puja Candle, Asht Lakshmi Puja Candle and Shani Dev Puja Kit. In Durga Saptshati Puja Candle we have tried to accomodate all 56 ingredients which are dear to Maa Durga and is mentioned in Sri Durga Saptshati which is part of Markandya Puran. This candle contains extract of 22 herbs like shatavari, ashwagandha etc, 5 essential oils, 9 types of flowers, beeswax and other ingredients. It is decorated with Kum Kum, Kesar Petals and pure Silver leaf. Asht Lakshmi Puja Candle contains 18 ingredients which are dear to Maa Lakshmi and is decorated with Kesar Petals and 24K gold dust. The herbs and essential oils used in diya have therapeutic value and create a positive aura when lighted. Great Companies: What makes Bee Celebration different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Babita Khanna: Bee Celebration candles are completely organic and contain only 3 ingredients viz. beeswax, essential oils and coconut oil. We do not use any chemicals in our products. We use cosmetic grade beeswax and cold pressed coconut oil. Beeswax and essential oils are procured from a renowned manufacturer which is known for their quality, We get cold pressed coconut oil directly from Kerala. These candles have got therapeutic value and are loaded with health benefits. Infact burning beeswax candles produces negative ions in the vicinity which attracts toxins and clear dust and dander in the air. Each candle comes with a leaflet which suggests which all diseases are cured by inhaling beeswax and that particular essential oils vapors. All Bee Celebration candles can be burned by those with allergies and by those who are sensitive to strong chemical scents. Great Companies: What were the struggles and challenges you faced and how did you overcome them? Babita Khanna: Our candles are a little expensive as beeswax costs 3-4 times the paraffin cost and more than double the Soy wax. Also essential oils costs much more compared to normal perfume used in scented candles. Therefore, we have kept very low margins in order to make our candles more affordable. We want more and more people to try our candles and take advantage of aromatherapy. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for Bee Celebration? Babita Khanna: In the coming months we are introducing small trial packs of our beeswax candles. This would cost less and let new users try our product at lower cost. We are also introducing soy wax candles with essential oils for people who prefer Vegan products. This range would be priced moderately so that more people can relieve their stress and get benefits of aromatherapy. In the next 5 years I see Bee Celebration to become the first choice of consumers for Quality Scented Candles. All Bee Celebration Candles would maintain high standards that would not only produce compelling aromas but would also be loaded with health benefits. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Babita Khanna: Meet high standards of product quality, keep studying market and consumer demands and make adjustments to your product line periodically to match customer requirements. And above all, believe in your product and believe in yourself.

  • Dr Chandramohan Asrani, Founder Chairman at Dr C H Asrani Associates

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Dr Chandramohan Asrani: When I obtained my Post Graduation in Family Medicine (a Govt. of India qualification) in 1994, I realised that such extensive knowledge is suited for much more than just family practice. I conceptualised and formed INCHES (then Indian Council of Health Education and Health Services) to hold healthcare events and offer consulting to industry – largely FMCG as most FMCG products are sold on platform of health – tooth pastes, to shampoos to supplements to skin creams etc. In 1995, we learnt that Insurance industry is going to privatised soon and we realised that since a large percentage of decisions in insurance are based on medical insights – be it underwriting or claims, overseas partners entering India would need to refine the processes to suit the Indian scenario. It was further realized that most of insurance professionals managing underwriting and claims are either non-medicos or non-practicing doctors. INCHES envisioned to fill this technical gap and today we have an extensive team of medicos (generalists, specialists and super specialists), legal and forensic professionals; a robust IT and analytic department and a team to handle motor third party claims. In 1996 InCHES became a Pvt Ltd Co. The idea of using knowledge beside practice continued and one of my company launched 2 websites for ethical, relevant and optimum content for consumer education: 1. www.growingwell.com – comprehensive guide for growing children 2. www.justeves.com – menarche to menopause and beyond These were Pro bono activities and still active disseminating information. We started content for pharma and FMCG industries. These websites have featured on CNN & BBC TV.. Another company of mine started offering Corporate Health services. Dr C H Asrani Associates – consulting arm for healthcare industry, devices and equipment manufacturers. Great Companies: What makes Dr C H Asrani Associates different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Dr Chandramohan Asrani: The founder continues to practice medicine and thus getting crucial updates in time and involved in conceptualising and creating solutions. We do not work with SMEs. Over 45 years I have obtained multiple qualifications in field of forensic medicine, medicolegal systems, Technology, blockchain and healthcare marketing from premier institutions. Great Companies: What were the struggles and challenges you faced and how did you overcome them? Dr Chandramohan Asrani: Every service that I offered was never done before, so it was a challenge to be accepted by the industry as they could not fathom that a practicing doctor can help their business – whatever that was. My decades of grass root intelligence of customer behaviour and physician attitudes helped fashion solutions – that delivered results for clients – in health and insurance. Today 25 years later there is wide acceptance so much so that I am in 3rd. stint as a Senior Health Insurance Consultant with World Bank having privilege of having helped NHA design a Fraud management solution. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for Dr C H Asrani Associates? • Hemraj Parmar, Co-founder at DoctCo

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Hemraj Parmar: I come from a village and have handled multi super-specialty hospitals in smaller towns of India as a Group CEO of chains of hospitals. Patients must travel to bigger cities for all super-specialty Surgeries and high-end medical procedures. So, I have seen the prevailing healthcare gaps from the very close quarters. Besides, my partner Nimith has faced this problem in his own family. This forced us both to rethink and redefine super-specialty care for Bharat. Great Companies: What are the various services provided by DoctCo? Hemraj Parmar: In DoctCo, we’re trying to bridge the super-specialty gap in Tier 2/3 cities of India and provide high-quality and affordable healthcare within 15 minutes of walking distance. As part of this initiative, we open state of the art telemedicine clinics and connect patient with a super-specialist in top tier hospitals across the country for super-specialty consultations and thereafter provide seamless support & concierge services through our marquee DoctCo Sathi, who acts as a family member away from home. Quality, affordability, and accessibility are three major pillars of the healthcare industry. We make good quality healthcare accessible through our super-specialty telemedicine centres. To improve affordability, we have launched two excellent products – reimbursement of bills and interest free EMI for needy patients seeking treatment in our partner hospitals. Finance is either very expensive or not available at all in smaller towns. To mitigate this challenge for our patients, an interest free EMI product acts as a lifesaver for emergent medical treatments while being in financial distress. Great Companies: What makes DoctCo different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Hemraj Parmar: The most important differentiator is the quality and accessibility of our services. Besides, the DoctCo Sathi acts as a family member for the patient and makes their journey painless, while improving the overall patient experience. We have a large pool of super-specialist doctor’s pan India for tele-consultations and have partnered with some of the best hospital groups in the country for super-specialty surgeries and medical procedures. Our services are aligned with the NDHM ecosystem and are HIPAA compliant, thereby ensuring patient safety and confidentiality. We make use of cutting-edge medical technology with a patient-centric approach. We have a comprehensive bouquet of services to make treatment affordable to our patients, so that they can get all services under one roof with proper guidance and handholding about the choice of a clinician and the healthcare facility as per his specific need. This has helped us ensure loyalty and increase our clientele overtime, while improving patient experience and outcomes. Great Companies: What were the struggles and challenges you faced and how did you overcome them? Hemraj Parmar: The first challenge we faced was about the choice of the city and selection of our first partner hospital there. Building a comprehensive ecosystem of super-specialist doctors and partner hospitals has been another challenge that we successfully surmounted. Breaking the local stranglehold on patients from the existing doctors and healthcare facilities is never easy. DoctCo was viewed as a competitor by them. But slowly we overcame this with the consistency of our exceptional services. Finding the right clinical and operational talent in smaller cities is a difficult task. We had to hire locally and suitably train the team. This can be time-consuming and expensive, especially when you are trying to scale up operations. Attrition is usually higher in start-ups.Start-ups are by nature risky. Lack of funding is one of the major reasons for many of them failing. We adopted a novel approach to generating enough revenue, while seeking external funding to continue growing unhindered. We have worked through the start-up funding winter and continued to grow without any substantial attrition or layoffs. This is a major achievement for us indeed while we are seeing many start-ups struggling. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for DoctCo? Hemraj Parmar: We are a well-funded start-up with aggressive growth plans. We are currently scaling up operations from 15 cities to 30 cities and are therefore on an intensive recruitment drive. We wish to bring our bouquet of services to more than 750 districts over the next five years and impact millions of lives across India. Our bouquet of services is also likely to increase substantially. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Hemraj Parmar: Start-ups are a challenging proposition but anyone with strong business acumen can become an entrepreneur. Not everything needs to be known prior to taking the plunge, there is a lot you learn along the way if you are open to it. Failures are part of the game. Be prepared. You may have to pivot frequently to optimize business and scaling up of operations. Resilience is the key. Without funding nothing works because initially the burn is very high. No investor is willing to invest if the model is not robust with a clear line to profitability. You should have a clear plan and visibility for the same, a good runway of at least 12-18 months is desirable. Networking is important for funding since there is immense learning from the founder fraternity and start-up ecosystem.

  • Devanshi Saraogi, Founder & Creative Director at D RefleQtion

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Devanshi Saraogi: I started off with an art page on Instagram by the name D RefleQtion when I was just 16 years old. Art formed a huge part of my life as a kid. I often found myself fascinated with the digital world, be it social media or illustrations drawn on computers. It was in August 2020, during covid, I realized that for many businesses it seems like a better idea to try your own hand at graphic design or use Canva or wait for revenue to start pouring in before contracting a professional instead of getting a hiring one for creating a consistent brand representation. I also noticed that for any business communication and relevancy are very important. I saw this as an opportunity, and decided to transform by then art page into a full time branding studio. I was only 19! . Great Companies: What are the various services provided by D RefleQtion? Devanshi Saraogi: We are a creative & consultancy studio based in Mumbai. Our studio’s name is a constant reminder for the same, to RefleQt a brand’s story and values to its audience. Great Companies: What were the struggles and challenges you faced and how did you overcome them? Devanshi Saraogi: As a 19 year old, the first thing I found myself struggling with was self-doubt. I was trying to navigate my way in this industry, often finding myself questioning if this is going to turn into something legitimate. For the first 8-9 months, I had only 3-4 clients! I overcame this by educating myself on various subjects, understanding what the clients need, putting myself and D RefleQtion’s work out there for people to see, building my network - and it’s been great ever since! Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for D RefleQtion? Devanshi Saraogi: I’ve always been a short-term goal person, because it helps me enjoy the process more. Talking about our 5 year goal, we have plans on expansion in terms of location and services. Collaboration with big brands is another. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Devanshi Saraogi: There’s a quote I came across when I was 12 years old and it has stuck by me ever since. It says - “At the end, you’ve got to be your own hero, because everyone’s busy trying to save themselves”. When you're starting out, you may often find yourself alone, maybe your friend or family won’t support your idea or your business might not be generating any revenue - in times like this, having firm self-belief goes a long way!

Flexible work environment, gender diversity, Medical care for employees and their immediate family members, menstruation leaves etc, are some of the policies that differentiate us from others. Being awarded by multiple agencies gives more confidence both to our clients and employees. We are also Google Partners and ISO certified. Great Companies: What were the struggles and challenges you faced and how did you overcome them? Sourav Sinha: Any business goes through the struggling period and we were no different. Being completely bootstrapped, we had to keep a close eye on the cash burn and cash flow. This has ensured that even today we keep a close eye on these figures. When you struggle at the start, you become smart in these activities. And you make quick decisions. We are very nimble in decision making and that has held us in good stead. Initially getting new employees was a challenge, we had a small office and it was not in the IT business district. People were not confident to join us. But we endured and as a result the few people who believed in us, still are with us even after so many years. And the ones who left still keep in touch. Business is after all a humane relationship. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for Brainium Information Technologies Pvt. Ltd.? Sourav Sinha: We are planning to build new offices in the USA, Australia, and the UK. We would love to provide more opportunities to New Talents so that they can create values with us in the long run. We also innovate our solutions and services to keep adding value for our clients. We would love to be one of the Best IT Software Development companies in the World in the coming days. Being a software company all our activities are almost digitized! We are still not a 100% paperless company, but we plan to achieve it within next year. We will continue to grow organically. We plan to have offices in the USA, Australia and Europe within the next 5 years. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Sourav Sinha: Take care of your employees and take care of your clients. Don't take anyone for granted. Keep a close eye on cash burn. Don’t focus only on the top line, it's the bottom line that makes sustainable business in the long run.

  • Douglas Brown, Owner- Founder at Manage2Retain

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Douglas Brown: Our concept developed from a previous company Engaged2Perform that was involved in employee engagement surveys and had collected a wealth of data on employee wants and needs over a 10 year period. When we started to see increased turnover rates in the “Great Resignation” over the last few years we felt we could help managers to meet the wants and needs of employees to improve their employee retention. This led to the creation of Manage2Retain and our services to support managers in strengthening employee relationships through more effective conversations and support actions Great Companies: What are the various services provided by Manage2Retain? Douglas Brown: Manage2Retain offers two key tools to - Help clients assess the risk of losing their talent (based on assessment of three critical factors related to employee’s decision to remain with their organization). ROI calculator to determine whether they can achieve an attractive financial return from investing in employee retention strategies. This is followed by our training and coaching services to help managers develop the soft, people skills that build strong, trusting relationships and connect with employees. These trainings are supported by interactive processes that enable managers to implement the trainings through ongoing conversations on a regular basis that understand and support employee needs. Great Companies: What makes Manage2Retain different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Douglas Brown: We work at the heart of the retention issue: the manager-employee relationship. The manager plays a crucial role in retention as they are in the strongest position to influence and affect the three critical drivers of employee retention, employee engagement, the employee’s work experience and the employee career development plan. This work is supported by direct on the job learning by manager-employee conversations that teach managers how to discuss and support what employee’s seek in a fulfilling career. Great Companies: What were the struggles and challenges you faced and how did you overcome them? Douglas Brown: One of our challenges has been helping organizations realize how important the manager is in the employee retention process. All employees have their own unique and personal career needs. These are different for everyone and as such cannot always be met through corporate programs designed for the entire company workforce. These intrinsic drivers can only be truly met through interactive dialogue that enables managers and the organization to truly understand what appeals to that employee. Once understood, managers and organizations can work to create a work experience that is fulfilling and rewarding for employees. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for Manage2Retain? Douglas Brown: Our mission is to support small to medium sized enterprises in improving employee absenteeism and turnover rates. As we grow we may continue to build the manager employee relationship so that it helps the manager to improve the employee performance, cultivate new ideas and innovations, and more. The key is to have a strong relationship and the foundational principles in place that delivers a loyal and committed workforce. When this is established we can build on this by moving forward and adding additional goals Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Douglas Brown: A new business or entrepreneur starting out- Do your research to understand the business challenges you are addressing and get clear on your value proposition on how you would improve and solve these challenges. I would also suggest be persistent. It will take time and effort. Someone starting out to improve their employee retention- Get you managers involved- Help them understand the importance of their role in the employee retention process and then give them the support and tools they need to be successful. Once in place you can then hold managers accountable for improving employee retention and/or retaining their talented employees.

  • Rangaraj Bhatracharya, CEO at WeMove Solutions

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Rangaraj Bhatracharya: I started my career in technical capacity when I was in IT, there were a lot of skills for which there were trainings for non-technical skills that we need to be successful in the corporate world. In the parallel I was also running a theatre company where the same set for skills were required to be successful as a theatre professional but only the perspective in which the skills were looked at were different. So, I started do some experiments using theatre for skills like team building, negotiation skills, prioritization, time management etc... At companies we worked in and a few where our friends worked. These experiments were a success and that gave us the confidence to start the company. Great Companies: What are the various services provided by WeMove Solutions? Rangaraj Bhatracharya: We work with the HR and L&D teams to work on various learning and employee engagement initiatives. We are work do trainings on technical skills like Data Visualization, .Net, Java, Problem Solving and Programming, Industry 4.0, AI & ML and non-technical skills like Communication, Negotiation Skills, Prioritization, Leadership Skills, First Time manager program, Induction, Campus to Corporate and various skills across the Job Ladder. We also work with Employee Engagement and other HR teams to do customized theatre performances on Culture, Values, and Employee Safety etc. Great Companies: What makes WeMove Solutions different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Rangaraj Bhatracharya: While most theatre based companies use theatre as an art form we work on creating experiences both in offline and Online modes. We have been working with companies in 3 modes offline, online and Hybrid modes. Great Companies: What were the struggles and challenges you faced and how did you overcome them? Rangaraj Bhatracharya: When we started off in 2013, there were not a lot of companies who understood about theatre based learning, so it was difficult to convince companies to try theatre based learning, but using my experience of working in the Technical business, I was able to convince the HR team on how theatre can be useful and help in improving the productivity and improve business. The second challenge was when COVID hit. When theatre was majorly seen an offline initiative with most of our clients and also with us. We were used to doing theatre experiences offline, but when whole world went online we worked with our closed group did a few experiments using actors and finally rolled it out to the world. This was a great turning point for us as it practically took us outside of India and into 8 different countries across the world. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for WeMove Solutions? Rangaraj Bhatracharya: Now that we have had some success in changing the way classroom learning can happen and turned into an experience, this idea is in a self-sustained mode. We are next looking to change the way e-learning is happening and change that into an experience. We have been working with a few of our clients to change their training content into interactive short films this experiment is been a success and it great that people are willing to pay money for it. We plan to launch our own learning experience platform with interactive web series and short films as learning content. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Rangaraj Bhatracharya: Before starting up never have backup plans, because you will always look at an easy exit when things go bad. So only have some money and live on the bare minimum till the business takes off. Never fixate with things like fund raising and valuations always focus on adding value to your customers and the money will come through.
