  • Vallari Parikh Singh, Founder at The Spicy Palate

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Vallari Parikh Singh: I’ve always been in love with food. My love for eating and cooking for others comes from my grandmother, and I always noticed her cooking. Cooking was therapy for her and it reflected in the food she made. I was brought up with that notion always and therefore food and cooking is so much more than a chore for me. During the pandemic, my jewellery business was at an all-time low and I had started sharing my food recipes and tips by the name of “The Spicy Palate” on Instagram in December 2019. Fast forwarding the next three months, I’d already done food pop-ups, set up stalls and shared valuable recipes to the first few believers. It was an experiment that made me realise my real passion. After moving to Mumbai, the pandemic immediately hit and while I started working on my page with uploading recipes, I realized I also need to monetize it in some way. That’s when Weekend Kitchens at TSP started. Although I might not be a “Follow the Recipe to the T” kinda chef, I certainly pour my secret ingredient, which is lots of LOVE ❤ Great Companies: What are the various Services provided by The Spicy Palate Vallari Parikh Singh: As a Cloud Kitchen, we cook and deliver tasty, flavorful vegetarian food from our Menu, at the comfort of your home. If you are hosting a party or are simply bored to cook, don’t worry we’ve got you covered! We also have a range of Premium Dips and Sauces which are a delicious and healthy addition to your munching! Apart from our Cloud Kitchen (currently serving HOT in Mumbai), we share awesome, easy to cook and delicious recipes in different formats, suiting the ones who love cooking! Great Companies: What makes The Spicy Palate different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Vallari Parikh Singh: Our USP significantly lies in how we’ve surrounded our menu to the house party segment, with the food being a memorable HIT at the party you’re hosting, without the hassle of cooking. We ensure that the best quality ingredients are used with every item, made fresh and just in time, exclusively for you. Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face? Vallari Parikh Singh: I do face the challenge of catering to my audience’s liking of food types and items, since food is very versatile and there’s SO much you can do! Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for The Spicy Palate? Vallari Parikh Singh: In the next five years, I see The Spicy Palate becoming a familiar party food brand, expanding to more cities, having a strong team of like-minded chefs and managers. So far, TSP has 85-90% client retention, which is the biggest validation I have, and I only hope I can retain that over the years! Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Vallari Parikh Singh: If you’re starting out in the food space, I'd recommend that you establish your unique identity, it may be through the type of food or through the type of content delivery and messaging. One big advice I’d give would be, don’t try to do everything in the beginning. Start small, with a niche, get known for that, and then expand in phases! You'll get more done and faster. • Nikhilesh Tiwari, Founder at Helical IT Solutions Private Limited

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Nikhilesh Tiwari: The co-founder’s i.e. Nitin Sahu and Nikhilesh Tiwari, we had done schooling together. We always wanted to start something of our own and tried a few things but unfortunately failed. One of the venture was also about starting a healthcare IT company and tried to provide software products to hospitals, labs, blood banks, etc. But we didn’t have much idea about the healthcare domain (which had a lot of stringent regulations) and thus had to shut it down. Having failed a few times we have had a good share of learning of do’s and don’t while startingup. Since Nitin had been working in the DW BI ETL space for a few years now and knew the sector inside out we thought of starting a company in the same domain. That is how Helical IT was born. The name Helical continued from our healthcare IT venture. We started the company as a pure-play services company and used to provide services in the domain of Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence and ETL space and that too focusing primarily on the open-source tools and technologies. We also raised angel funding within few months of starting and after that, we have been pretty profitable. Over the years we provided services to more than 80+ clients including some big names like CA Technologies, Tata Communications, Fractal Analytics, Technip, Government of Micronesia, Government of Marshall Islands, Government of Kiribati Islands, etc. While providing services over various other BI products we felt the kind of issues and limitations which are there in other BI products and that’s what prompted us to start working on and launching our own Open Source BI product Helical Insight. Right now there are 51 clients who are using Helical Insight on their production environment across various domains and geographies and we have had 8 releases so far and we are working on a major 5.0 release. We provide our product as a developer friendly and extensible BI framework and that too in two versions i.e. a free version and a paid version. Our paid version is also almost 85% cost effective as compared to other BI products without really compromising on the features. Great Companies: What are the various Services provided by Helical IT Solutions Private Limited Nikhilesh Tiwari: We are a mix of both product and services. On the services side we provide services on the below Business Intelligence: We provide services on various BI tools which includes open source as well as proprietary BI tools like Jaspersoft, Pentaho, PowerBI, Quicksight, Tableau etc. We consult customers, build various reports and dashboards, white labeling, embedding and other services we provide. Aside we also have got experience on various stand along charting engines as well as mapping engines. ETL: We also help customers in building their data pipelines. We use various ETL tools like Talend, Kettle, AWS Glue, Apache Spark and various other data processing engines to build the data pipelines. Data Warehouse: We also provide consultation on designing the data warehouse, populating the data warehouse, best practices etc. Big Data Migration: For customers who are looking to migrate to big data technologies that is also something we help with. We have got experience on various big data and NoSQL technologies which includes Apache drill, mongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra, hadoop, Presto etc. Apart from the above list of services we also provide our own BI product Helical Insight. We offer our product both on subscription model as well as perpetual license model. For certain customers we also provide services on our BI product and help customers in building their various required reports, dashboards, white labeling, embedding, SSO etc. Great Companies: What makes Helical IT Solutions BI product offering different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Nikhilesh Tiwari: Whereas most of the BI products have a very closed garden approach, we have built our open source BI product Helical Insight as a developer friendly open source framework. We have empowered our customers and developers so that they themselves can add functionalities. We are a completely browser based product. We are one of the only products which comes with a workflow functionality. There are placeholders to add code like HTML Java Javascript SQL Groovy etc. We are the only product with extensive API support, each and every functionality is supported by API. At each and every module it is possible to add functionality like adding new DB support, adding new chart, adding new charts customization, adding new DBFunction, adding new aggregate function etc. There are a lot of configurable XML files also. Aside we are one of the rare product which not only supports new generation dashboards and map based analytics, but we also support pixel perfect multi pager document kind of canned reports as well. On the costing side also we are more than 85-90% cost affective as compared to other BI products. We have a very strong product roadmap as well which is going to challenge the most feature rich proprietary BI product as well. Our long term vision with our product is to empower even simple to medium sized companies also analyze the power of analytics and data and help them in better decision making. A decision making should be backed by data and that is what we are empowering companies to do. Our open source free option and less costing allows any company to be data driven. Our future versions which will also have NLP and ML will allow people to ask questions from the data, thus making it even more simpler to derive insights from the data. Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face? Nikhilesh Tiwari: The biggest challenges which we have faced is in terms of getting good talent and retaining them. Even though our country adds a lot of new engineers every year into the talent pool but most of them are poor on skills. So it is very difficult to get a person with the required skillset, experience and attitude. It is even more so for a small company which is not a big brand as compared to the MNCs and big organizations. Aside when we had started we also had problem of cash flows but that soon got resolved as we got funded and as we started getting customers. Further with our product maturing the margins and top line has been improving substantially. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for Helical IT Solutions Private Limited? Nikhilesh: We have a lot of things which we have planned for our product as well as services. On the product side we are very aggressively working on a major version release i.e. version 5.0 of our product which is having a lot of UX and functionality improvement on our product. There are also very futuristic technologies and features which we have planned on our product which also includes UI driven workflow engine, a Google search kind of interface wherein users can ask questions in English language and get the answers from the data, in-memory support, support of statistical and ML algorithms inbuilt into the product and much more. We do plan to raise funding as well in next two quarters which can help us to fast track our product development and sales effort. We do plan to have some kind of offshore offices as well as have regional partners in non native English speaking countries for more outreach to clients Aside we also plan to increases our services portfolio as well and add more and more cutting edge skillsets into our product. That will always help us learn how the industry is shaping up and where to innovate. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Nikhilesh Tiwari: Some of the advices I would like to offer to someone starting up are below - Build something in a sector wherein you know the painpoints and how you can tackle those painpoints. Otherwise in many cases the learning curve itself can be very long. - Have patience. There is no overnight success and things take time. So don’t give up irrespective of the hardships and keep on fighting. - Don’t try to start alone, have more than one cofounders with complimentary skillsets. - Try to chase and create value for your clients, money will follow - Never run out of cash. Always keep your expenses under control. Expenses can increase exponentially but not necessarily your revenues - Build fast and release fast. Do not wait for the perfect product/perfect feature. • Nazim Iqbal, Founder of HUDE Studio

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Nazim Iqbal : During my journey of 20 years in the digital industry - I have seen the digital evolve from the days digital footprint used to be just a bundle of scrambled HTML pages to a time when digital now powers every process of the organisation functioning and every touch point of its customers. Along the journey I have, for long, felt a silent human disconnect that has crept in with increasing digitisation of processes and business functions. Increasing automation has ensured standardisation, availability of data points, and an improved revenue for businesses. But for the users and for the organizations as well increasing automation has meant less and less human interaction. For most organisations, digitisation and digital transformation has meant more and more adoption of technology. But for technology to be successful, design is central to make it usable and to add an experience layer to it. Without these two, technology with increasing digitisation will continue to deliver greater cognitive load to the users. I call it the “Digital Debt” and the organisations will be forced to pay it back sometime in near future. Digital till now has ridden on the technology crest without putting mindscape to the ‘digital debt’ that it is creating by delivering technology that demands more and more from users to remain relevant. But if you look at it, digital is no longer limited to the fulfilment of functional needs of users. The users subconsciously expect, during their interaction that apart from fulfilment of their functional needs, the digital interface and interaction should respond to their emotional needs as well. This is a latent need, but as digitisation increases further, the emotional needs will evolve to become a key set of needs that digital will be asked to fulfil. I am increasingly noticing this among the users and citizens who constantly interact with digital. More so with the generation z, for whom digital services are an integral part of their lives. The good development is that some of the meta brands and organisations have started to realise this. And they have started to give design a key chair in their digitalisation roadmap and digital transformation journey. We are already witnessing the big shift from semantic text and visuals to more emotionally rich content like voice and catch-my-mood videos in user generated content. In fact, across the age categories use of voice command is rising and in some age categories it now owns upto 51% of the share Second most important thing I have noticed, especially in digital communication & social space, is mis-contextualising. Not understanding the users, business objectives and framing the communication approach with vague understanding of users categories and behaviour. Or on the other end becoming too obsessed with data science. Data without emotions consideration will continue to build functional relationships. All this has meant that users vis-a-vis brands continue to have mis-matched expectations between what they expect and what they get from the digital presence and their outreach programs. From the digital service providers perspective, this is a matter of ethics and it is binding on them to invest in understanding the ever-evolving digital landscape, the expectation of the organisation, aligning with their goals, the emotional landscape of the users before setting expectations. Bundled with this is the rising awareness and concern about mis-information, fake news, misuse of personal data and sustainability - so you now have a very different dimension of digital which is emerging. From being the poster boy in the organisations’ growth and strategy - it now pulls in corporate governance, business ethics and even CSR with circular economy coming into play. HUDE Studio (HUDE is an acronym of Human Design) was conceptualised against this background - to be a design studio that will use design to make technology usable, services more user-friendly and humanise the digital presence of organisations and brands. In short, prepare organisations for the future. Great Companies: What are the various Services provided by HUDE Studio Nazim Iqbal : HUDE Studio is a pure play experience design studio and we offer design and experience technology services that respond to the brand and human experience needs across the digital ecosystem. The team carries an experience of building digital platforms starting from a single line brief to doing ground work that involves carrying out field research, developing new digital playbooks, and conducting fusion workshops with business stakeholders. Our services range across from UX audit, conversation design for bots, product design, mobile applications, web presence, digital branding, communication design, UX-led SEO and interaction design for digital IOT interfaces. Importantly beyond the digital presence and digital transformation is the ongoing narrative which will continue to be owned and driven by content. For us, content design is a big engagement space and we are excited about the emerging opportunities. Businesses are realising that tons of semantic content is not taking them anywhere as far as active user engagement over the life cycle of the product or service is concerned. It is here that the emotionally rich content has filled in - but designing emotionally rich content requires an evolved design acumen. But above all these, we offer to bring a human touch to the digital transformation journey that an organisation or brand is undertaking. We are human design specialists and we ensure digital continues to retain human relevance contextual to the organisation and transformation. Great Companies: What makes HUDE Studio different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Nazim Iqbal : We are more than a UX and UI company - we bring our understanding of human emotions, experience technology, digital branding, content narrative, search quotient and empower the services we offer with these insights. The leadership team experience of more than two decades across digital verticals, positions the organisation to deliver design value at every vertical and at every juncture of the digital ecosystems. With our team’s experience across branding, product design, service design and digital communication - we offer a relationship to a brand or product across its journey from MVP to digital outreach program. Importantly, our operation and delivery credo of co-creation means our quest is to team up with clients as partners. We make an extra effort to team up with our client project team - to map their business needs, to continue to test the solutions iteratively with their users and to encourage them to pool their business problems and ideas. We operate both as a consultancy and as a digital design studio. This gives us the agility and flexibility to orient ourselves in an engagement as the business scenario demands. To some of our clients we operate as an extended design studio - taking care of design and digital needs across the board. Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face? Nazim Iqbal : We believe we are a leg ahead - in our quest to deliver business value of design. Apart from the top product companies, most of the organisations still continue to view design as a visual dress job or to the most, a process design job. It will take a few more years before design is seen as the most vital factor for the success of the product or the business in the digital space. Technology across sectors is fast becoming a commodity - so it is a design that can impart a differential factor, build a brand quotient and induce an emotional bond for an organisation. Since we continue to be small and are committed to deliver the business value of design - there are few organisations who are open to engage at a wider level. As against the recent proliferation of UI and UX companies - design is still now mostly equated with templates design and product roadmap. Whereas design has different roles to play at different junctions as the organisation or the product grows and matures. For instance, I am conducting a design workshop for the team members of a technology led product company. Since it is an organisation staffed with technologists - a design consciousness higher up will reduce the design iteration toward the end. This if you look at it - is a project cost optimization, reduces the iteration towards the end and saves them the drag in delivery. HUDE Studio wants to represent design in the digital space that is seen as a business value for today and investment for future - an investment that will yield dividends beyond the interface and build human quotient for the brand. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Nazim Iqbal : The pandemic long tail continues and we now have the Ukraine-Russia conflict. So economic conditions will continue to be tough for at least a year and half. So it is important to adapt and survive. Two things that have been true in the past will continue to hold more true now - focus and persistence. Add to that the circumstantial need to be prudent and frugal. To the design fraternity - design has a social role to play which is far more significant than just running a business. Design is a god-like act albeit to much lesser degree. One creates something which does not exist. Design practitioners also identify latent needs of users and try to fulfill them, much like god. The role requires a degree of spirituality, demands honesty and needs an evolved consciousness of human ethics. What we create influences not just the revenues but shapes moods and triggers emotions. In more than a way, it is not just a role, it is a responsibility. Website : https://hudestudio.com/ Social Media : LinkedIn | Blog

  • Perminder Singh Malik, President at Scope For Change

Great Companies: What inspired you to start the NGO?? Perminder Singh Malik: For a long, I have been doing various humanitarian activities at a personal level based on 3 main Sikh Principles, for which I have received an award from the Minorities Commission, Govt of NCT Delhi. I never felt contentment because I realized that there was a disconnect between the change-makers and beneficiaries, as they face challenges in terms of funding, volunteering, management and strategic thinking. Thus, I planned to start a non-profit to support their initiatives in the best possible way through collaborative efforts to have a life-lasting impact. Secondly, in my view, we can create significance in a more organized way through a non-profit directly supporting the beneficiaries. Great Companies: Under Scope for Change, what are the various activities? Perminder Singh Malik: Initially, our focus was to shape the future of underprivileged kids through education and work towards the betterment of the Environment. But amid Covid19, several other raising issues gained our attention. As a result, we expanded the focus area as per the need of the hour. That's how we introduced three more verticals, such as Women's Empowerment, Social Well Being and Health. As per the name of our causes, we have several ongoing and upcoming projects under each head. Every project's end goal is to create a better tomorrow. Great Companies: What makes Scope For Change different from the hundreds of similar nonprofit organizations? Perminder Singh Malik: Our team's attitude; we continuously strive towards creating a better tomorrow. We launch our projects with a goal and divert all our attention towards achieving it. The striking part is how the team works day and night to achieve the Vision of the organization. Most importantly, our collaborative approach of working with various other non-profits by supporting them in their projects. Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face? Perminder Singh Malik: We struggled in making our position in society, which we accepted as a challenge by finding creative ways of converting it into an opportunity for the success of our organisation. Dedication in volunteering efforts is another which we have been facing and we have changed our approach and gradually we would be able to overcome that. Great Companies: What service plans do you have for the future? How will Scope For Change look five years from now? Perminder Singh Malik: Though we have several small projects which we initiated during the COVID19; considering it as a need of the hour; We have decided to keep them running in parallel by keeping our focus on Education, Environment and Women’s Empowerment projects. We are looking at more innovative ways to serve the society which can solve some of the complex problems of the marginal communities. Five years down the line, we will look like education transformers for the underprivileged sector, environment savers for the nation and supporters of the women’s empowerment sector. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Perminder Singh Malik: It would be to have patience, as it will always support you in carrying your goals towards success. While you are on your journey, you might face various challenges in this sector, which you cant imagine. Try to make it a part of your routine, as making life better for someone is not easy. • David Einstin, Founder at D2B Cargo Private Limited

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? David Einstin: The Indian Road Transportation market is to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8 per cent and reach $330 Bn by 2025.We have big logos like Amazon, Flipkart in the ecom sector with the expected growth of $120 Bn by 2025, which is twice lower than the Road Transportation sector. But we don't have a big logo to mention in the road Transportation sector to address the disconnect between the Shipper and the transporter. This unaddressed market potential makes me to look towards the transportation sector. Great Companies: What are the various Services provided by D2B Cargo Private Limited David Einstin: D2B Cargo is the online truck booking marketplace connecting the customers and the transporters without any brokers in between. The main services are Organizing the freelance truckers, Serving shippers with verified truckers at the unknown locations, Facilitating the transporters with advance load booking at any location across country, Bidding services for Customers for best offers. Great Companies: What makes D2B Cargo Private Limited different from hundreds of other similar service providers? David Einstin: There are no hundreds of different service providers. Yes there are some players providing the similar kind of services. But the USP is D2B cargo is the only company allows the transporters and the shippers to connect directly and fix the rate for the consignment. All other players will fix the rate and give the consignment to the transporters and the money will be credited to the transporters account after 3 to 5 business days after the service charge decoctions. We are here to eliminate this process and give full credit to the parties. Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face? David Einstin: Lack of awareness of this concept and D2B Cargo is still educating the transporters, making them to understand that D2B Cargo is not like other players to deduct service charge for each load or to fix the load for you. Its not a cake walk to deal with the transporters to create the awareness. But now we are progressing well as the market is responding positively. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for D2B Cargo Private Limited? David Einstin: D2B Cargo's short term goal is to capture the market in the Indian Metros like Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and in 5 years D2B cargo will be addressing 10% of $330 Bn market and will cover the TAM of $1.5 to 2 Bn and extended its presence in other parts of the world. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? David Einstin: My advice or what I believe is that any successful business model is something that you learn how to do business. But not copy it for your business.

  • Leonard Jackson, Founder at Ambipalm Health Private Limited

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Leonard Jackson: In 2016, I lost my younger brother through a motorbike accident in Kolkata and the primary reason being, he couldn't find an ambulance on time. This made me think about our Transport Medical System in India and like my brother, there are thousands who face the same challenge. In a country where ordering food, groceries, etc. are delivered in 15 minutes then why not have something for more critical life situations. This is when Doris, my wife along with my other business partner, Kameron Abraham decided to develop an App that works similar to a cab hailing service that would help patients during emergencies or planned hospital visits get transport when needed with a few clicks from an App available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store for free. Great Companies: What are the various Services provided by AMBIPALM HEALTH PRIVATE LIMITED Leonard Jackson: 1) Currently, we provide ambulance services which is a paid feature. 2) We also have a Blood Donation feature which is FREE OF COST for our users looking to find different kinds of blood type. 3) We have something else known as AmbiTales which are short graphic stories that give a lot of information about the current happenings like Covid, Nutrition, etc., this is also a free feature. 4) In about 2 months, we are launching our full blown Nutrition App called NutriPalm. Our vision is to become a One Stop Solution for all medical needs. Therefore, we plan to launch Online Pharmacy, Lab Diagnostics, Online Doctor Consultation as well in the months to come. Great Companies: What makes AMBIPALM HEALTH PRIVATE LIMITED different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Leonard Jackson: The biggest USP is what we've built in the App which is one of its kind called "Negotiations'. Based on our initial experience and study, we noticed that a country like India which is diversified when it comes to income and since a lot can't afford an ambulance even during an emergency, wants to negotiate the price. The current players in the market make the most of these patients' situations and overcharge the customers. By introducing the Negotiations feature, we've given the "POWER BACK TO THE CUSTOMER" to get an ambulance that is pocket friendly. Pricing during a medical transport should be the least of the patient's worries during travel and we have been able to bridge that gap through our App and also through our call center support. As a strong tech company, we have made all our processes automated to avoid human error. Another strong point that makes us different from others in India is that since one of our Founders is from the US, we follow US standard SLAs for all our operations. This has been recognised and appreciated by many of our customers that we even had one user review us on Google, mentioning that he didn't feel like he was in India while using our services. There are other factors that also make us different like Lowest Price Guaranteed, 'Patients before Profits' policy which enables us to cater to our patients more effectively and professionally. Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face? Leonard Jackson: The ambulance industry is a disorganised industry. The initial setup met with major roadblocks like coordinations, setting proper SOPs, SLAs, etc. One of the major challenges we faced being an aggregator was ensuring quality management and putting set systems in place. Initially, we were small fish in a big pond but considering the tremendous growth we've had in the last one and a half year, the tides have changed and because of the quality and effectiveness of doing business we've been able to put in place, we've seen a major change in the way the business is being operated. Launching a corporate company has its share of opposition with local ambulance providers as they feel we're here to steal their business but over the months, they've seen that we're here to work in tandem with them and they've seen that we've been able to generate more business for them. Therefore, everybody has a piece of the pie to ensure India's medical transport system is world class. Another challenge that we face is that a lot of Venture Capitalist companies don't show interest in funding ambulance companies as the general mindset is that an ambulance is required during a 'negative' situation but in truth, an ambulance plays an initial critical role in helping patients get the help they need before getting to a hospital. So, even though it's not a comfortable topic to discuss when it comes for funding, it's an essential element of life saving during medical needs and I hope VCs are more open to this idea as they can help in streamlining and bring a major shift in the way the ambulance industry operates. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for AMBIPALM HEALTH PRIVATE LIMITED? Leonard Jackson: As of latest research, there are currently little over 47,000+ private hospitals around India. Our goal is that in the next 5 years to capture 20% - 25% hospitals by becoming their Medical Transport Partner. This would ensure that we take care of all incoming and outgoing patients from the hospital with professionalism, courtesy and utmost care. We intend to be present in all parts of the country, including Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities and towns. We are building a tech system that would enable a patient to get an ambulance within 10 minutes of the distress call. We don't proclaim false information with regards to quality, timing, etc. like other companies but deliver as promised based on our track record and customer reviews. AmbiPalm aims to become the de facto ambulance provider across the country and our neighbouring countries. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Leonard Jackson: There will be setbacks when you start off, difficulties like opposition, people who wouldn't believe in what you are doing, etc. However, when you have that self determination and strong belief that you will succeed with what you've ought to set out, you will by all means as long as you don't take shortcuts to achieve those goals. Have like minded people in your team who align with your vision and push everyday for success even if you don't see it in the immediate future. Treat your company as your baby and prioritise all that you do around it to bring success. Challenges will come along as you keep pushing forward but take them as speed bumps and keep pushing forward. Building a startup isn't easy but it is also not impossible as long as you believe in your product.

  • Anuraag S, Founder at Pencilbox

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Anuraag S: I had education in various parts of the country as my father was in Indian Army. The colourful life provided under the Army background, drew me to colours & their various combinations. It was organized & a disciplined life. Visit to various places gave me a good exposure to my visual traits. My father wanted me to be an Army Officer but I found 7.62mm Rifle too heavy to carry, so I chose HB pencil, few crayons and stationery which I use to keep in a Pencilbox. Later, I realized that Pencilbox is a great tool to initiate any Creative work. A pencil lets us draw our imagination on paper, a sharpener keeps on sharpening our ideas, an eraser lets us modify our work till the time it is perfectly done, a scale (ruler) lets us measure the success of our design and with all this there will me one more element (like Crayons in my case) which will define the persona of that person. And thus, we at Pencilbox also carry our client’s personality constantly in our minds to deliver their passion. The idea behind starting Pencilbox as a design consultancy emerged as a passion to provide creative solutions for any problem. • Raj Mehta, Founder at Greta Electric Scooters

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Raj Mehta: As a child, I was compelled to ride my bicycle considerable miles for errands. I despised it since I am naturally lazy, so I set out to find a solution. As they say, "Necessity is the mother of invention," and one thing led to another, and I came across the idea of building an electric engine for my bicycle. Even back then, I was aware of the significance of developing an environmentally sustainable solution. I couldn't get the notion out of my head once I was hooked, and I became obsessed with making it a reality. Researching, seeking help from my teachers and anyone I could find, at the age of 12, I managed to create a workable model of an e-kit that converted by cycle into an e-cycle. The challenge of making it, the research experimentation, finally the sweet success not to miss the convenience it lent – I knew this is what I wanted to do in the future. I had never envisaged starting a company. But a chance interview with a leading news agency got viral, and demands for e-kits began pouring in, and I was in business. I was 14 when I set up Raj Electromotives, making me the youngest entrepreneur in the automotive industry. Even when creating the first prototype, it was evident that the production of e-kits would require a few critical components to be imported. Hence once we started the company, I applied for an import-export license becoming the youngest person to ever apply for one and be awarded one at the age of 17. None of this would have happened if my grandfather had not stepped in to loan me Rs. 8K in exchange for being allowed to keep a close watch on my finances. Raj Electromotives started operations by producing conversion kits for pedal cycles. It soon expanded its portfolio to include conversion kits for tricycles for differently-abled people, bikes (India’s first retro-fitment kit to convert a Petrol Bike to Electric), and pedal rickshaws, both freight and passenger rickshaws. Raj Electromotives Conversion Kits found traction both in the domestic and overseas markets. Today Raj Electromotives Pvt. Ltd. supplies to more than 19 countries across the globe. Furthering the vision of clean commute, Make in India, and saving fossil fuel, in June 2019, I started a subsidiary of Raj Electromotives – Greta Electric Scooters, which manufactures a range of e-scooters and received our ICAT permit in late 2019. Greta Electric Scooters has made its presence in India and Nepal and are under test for certification in Select European markets. To our merit, we have a charging station at the highest altitude, thanks to our recently opened showroom at Leh, Ladakh. Great Companies: What are the various Services provided by Greta Electric Scooters Raj Mehta: Our company offers affordable two-wheeler electric scooters with state-of-art features. Currently, the company has rolled out four models in the market. Greta Electric Scooters offer best-in-class comfort and superior performance with mileage in the range of 100 km per charge. All four models come with DRL, EBS, reverse mode, ATA System, smart shift, Digital instrument cluster display, keyless start, disc brakes and anti-theft alarm. They come in attractive colors support light designer consoles with extra-large storage space. Great Companies: What makes Greta Electric Scooters different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Raj Mehta: Its my vision that sets me apart from the rest. My vision is to make commuting easy and affordable for the majority of people. With that aim, I've brought to market, a line of affordable two-wheelers with state-of-the-art-features and with exceptional quality. Recognizing that every customer has unique requirements, we also allow customers to choose the four battery variants. Now customers can tailor the scooter to fit their need and budget. Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face? Raj Mehta: Every start-up is loaded with challenges, mine was no different. It is those who persevere, overcome them and, pave the way to success - Luckily for me I persevered. Given my age I believe my challenges were a shade different to start with, as I stated not with an idea of starting a company but with finding a solution to a real problem I was battling – peddling long distances. For me it was like taking an idea out of thin air and giving it all to bring it to fructification. But once I got to making that idea a commercial success I faced the same challenges that most start-ups do : Idea & validation, Funding, Market understanding, Defining USP, People management, Procurement, establishing a supply chain, Understanding the basics of Financial Management and Operations. For a young entrepreneur they unexplored chapters of their education and they need to quickly clear while executing and getting the business in place. It is challenging, mind boggling and often disheartening. Often we give in to fine tuning our model and learning to perfection before taking the leap and that is where many fail. The key is to execute and make learning and improvements a way of life. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for Greta Electric Scooters? Raj Mehta: Five years down the road I would like to see Greta Electric Scooters as a dominant player in the market if not a market leader in the e-scooter segment. Our active search for dealers and distributors across the country is the first step in the direction. We intend to have an experiential area in as many dealer outlets as possible to allow customers to get a hands-on feel of the product and access to experts who can address all their concerns & queries. To ensure a superlative post sales experience most of the dealer touch points will offer post sales service too and we will train their staff for the same. Our FY22 target is to add 50+ touchpoints to our network. We will explore international markets too as an when the opportunity presents itself. To be competitive and pass the stringent international quality standards, our emphasis is on implementing state-of-the-art features and deliver quality in accordance with international norms. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Raj Mehta: Every journey starts with a single step but to complete the journey successfully you need the drive. A famous quote of an American Entrepreneur, Scott Blesky says- “It’s not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen” Its not about age, resources or finances it is about the conviction that becomes your stubbornness to bring your idea to life.

  • Pulkit Garg, Founder at Aanya Wellness (Brand by Vividphile Wellness Private Limited)

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Pulkit Garg : The idea for the startup was inspired by the way Zomato had made accessing food joints easy. I have been an avid follower of natural healing practices, Ayurveda and Yoga to be precise. While on my hunt for an Ayurvedic centre, I stumbled upon this idea and decided to start working on it. The first step was to do a survey, which helped me understand that ~ 75% of the sample size of the survey was looking for a solution that made accessing natural healing centres easy. Hence, the journey to build Aanya Wellness started. Great Companies: What are the various Services provided by Aanya Wellness (Brand by Vividphile Wellness Private Limited) Pulkit Garg : We are an integrated preventive healthcare discovery platform based on natural healing. Our prime array of services include wellness tourism and corporate wellness, along with online wellness services for preventive healthcare consultation, yoga classes, mental health services etc. Great Companies: What makes Aanya Wellness (Brand by Vividphile Wellness Private Limited) different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Pulkit Garg: The key focus for Aanya Wellness is natural healing; as per the research done by our abled team, there are a plethora of platforms but they are working in their own specific niches. As a platform our focus is to build an altruistic ecosystem for all such players and make it easier for the end customer to find the right package/solution for them. Two of the key areas where we are striving for are preventive healthcare and natural healing. Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face? Pulkit Garg: The current wellness industry is highly unorganised and over 70% is unstandardised. While ease of accessibility to preventive healthcare is evolving, the wellness practices are not well defined and this is the challenge that we at Aanya Wellness are working on resolving. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for Aanya Wellness (Brand by Vividphile Wellness Private Limited)? Pulkit Garg: In next 5 years we aim to have expanded to international markets across Dubai and Middle-East, The US, The UK, Scandinavian Belt, and the South Asian region. We have already started with tie-ups with few international startups in the wellness space, and looking to work closely with more such brands. Aanya Wellness through its tech-enabled platform aims at empowering and bridging the gap between wellness seekers and wellness providers across the globe. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Pulkit Garg: Get up, dress up, and show up! It's going to be hard, but then isn't living with a broken dream or regret.
