  • Six Degrees Productions, Winner of the Great Companies Global Business Award - 2022

Business Name: Six Degrees Productions Name: Lee-Anne Theron Location: Vancouver, Canada Establishment (Year): 2018 Category / Industry: Marketing and Advt Sub Category / Sub Industry: Video Production and Graphic Design Number of employees: 11-50 employees Website URL: https://sixdegreesproductions.ca/ https://six.co.za/ Portfolio: https://vimeo.com/sixdegreesproductions LinkedIn URL: https://www.linkedin.com/company/sixdegreesproductions/ Company Detail: They are a full-service video, animation, and graphic design agency with offices in Canada, South Africa, and the Netherlands. The solutions to Customer problems: Problem- Corporate clients hire them to create professional videos, animations, and graphic designs that they use to communicate internally to their staff or communicate externally to market and advertise their products and services online, in presentations, and at trade shows. Solution- Video and Animation Their video and animation teams are stalwarts of the production industry. They have years of experience, at the forefront of modern techniques. Video is what they do because the video is what they love. Passion goes a long way when it comes to constantly produce content that fulfills objectives, keeps clients happy, and still pushes the necessary boundaries. Anyone can make videos – not everyone should. Their team handles every aspect of the production of their videos. This is how they maintain control over the result. And there are a lot of moving parts when making videos… Before making a piece video, they must understand why they’re making it. This involved meetings and brainstorming with their clients, so they can internalize the market, problems, and potential, which is how they create the solutions. The solution dictates the type of video they make – because not all are created equal: • Interview videos: Filming people talking (‘talking heads’ as they are pejoratively referred to in the industry) is great at putting a human face on a brand or company, exposing certain personalities to a wider audience, or getting clients to back up our claims of credibility. They are also incredibly cost-effective. • Explainer video: These are usually best done with voice-over and execution with custom-shot footage, or animation. If they’re explaining an idea to viewers, this is the way to do it • Concept video: Challenging the status quo requires boundary-pushing execution. From the tops of mountains to the insides of the human body, to the depths of the mind, these types of videos combine a variety of execution techniques, motion design, 2D and 3D animation, custom-shot footage, and stock. These are the art movies of the corporate world, and they are a blast to make These are only a few examples of what video can do. The lesson, however, is a simple one – make sure that their clients have a purpose, and that the video they create is fit for it. Once they know the why, and that has led us to the what, they will look after all the hows. Every piece in this video production chain is just as important as the other, which is why they treat them as such. • Scriptwriting: Their writers aren’t just good with words, or the kind of people who know what an Oxford comma is, and where it should be used, they are experienced content aggregators and communicators who use words and emotion to drive content along. They will work directly with their clients, to make sure that the script that guides the voice is as accurate, powerful, and tight as humanly possible • Motion design: Animation could be the text at the front of a video, the logo builds for the client, or an entire video, built from the ground up – and animators know exactly how to give the biggest bang for every buck. These begin with treatment ideas, proceeding to storyboard before being brought to life by their talented, caffeinated hands. • Shooting: their camera people have spent years in the industry understanding different cameras, shooting techniques, lighting, and sound so that they can produce great-looking, superbly styled pieces of video content. Some call them nitpicky, they call them experts. • Editing: Pacing, tone, color, tempo, message – these are the domain of the Six Degrees Editors. They assemble all the working parts, like watchmakers, into the perfect realization of the project’s purpose. Video is movement captured on film. It is purpose brought to life. Graphic Design Graphic design is one of the most unassumingly significant elements of building and maintaining a brand’s identity, campaign, physical or digital presence, products, and services. It is a part of absolutely everything. When done right, in the hands of a studious, mindful, creative, and experienced team, the pieces coming together are substantially more than the sum of their parts. They always begin with a meeting of the minds, so they can understand the client’s reality, challenges and worldview as clearly as they do. This is the beginning of a relationship, after all, and there are still some things they think should be done the old-school way. What are they trying to achieve? Whom are they targeting? What’s the purpose? What’s the difference? What’s their story? What is happening in their industry? Just who, exactly are they? These are all things we need to know, to be that valued partner to their clients. They then machine all of this information through their insights and expertise to create new solutions in the visual space. Together – where your knowledge meets our experience – they will design things that will meet the objectives they set out. This is problem-solving, Six Degrees style! Unique Value Proposition: Their MANIFESTO 1. They ARE VISUAL STORYTELLERS – Whether it is a presentation, How-To video, or an explainer animation that they are creating, storytelling, a.k.a. their client’s message and their value proposition, are at the core of everything they do. They don’t just make pretty pictures. Everything they create has a clear objective that needs to be fulfilled. They HAVE FUN – they may operate in a corporate world where they interact with suits and ties on daily, but that doesn’t mean they are corporate and stiff. they love serving their corporate clients, so they present themselves as professionals that are not afraid to be themselves. Their clients love working with them because they are authentic, fun, and don’t take themselves too seriously. 2. They ARE CREATIVE – they are commercial creatives, so it is their job to combine art and business seamlessly into everything they create. Their clients come to them seeking creative solutions to real business problems. They keep up with current trends and continuously develop new ways to help their clients communicate better and stand out from their competitors. 3. They WORK HARD – they are in a deadline-driven industry, so last-minute client demands, late nights, and working over weekends just come with the territory. When it is crunch time, their team bands together to finish the project on time while consistently exceeding client expectations. 4 They HAVE AUTONOMY & FREEDOM – There is nothing worse than someone breathing down your neck, telling us what to do. Although they are a team, they all work in relative isolation across the globe, so they have the autonomy to manage their own time and run with their creative ideas. Through trial and error over the last two decades, they have developed processes and systems to ensure successful project deliveries. Outside of these processes, their work is a blank canvas, and they welcome creativity and new ideas. Autonomy means they are free to work when and how they want so long as client objectives are met and delivered on time. 5. They CREATE WOW! FOR THEIR CLIENTS – they deliver value and wow their customers. They live to make their clients look like rock stars, whether in a presentation they are delivering or an internal campaign they just launched. Their job is to work quietly in the shadows to prop their clients up so they can take credit for their marketing and communications successes. 6. LONG-TERMERM RELATIONSHIPS – they are in it for the long run. Although they have some one-off clients, most clients become repeat clients they have worked with for many years. How do we do that? By being good, kind humans that care about our client’s needs, show interest in their lives, relate to them on a human level and do whatever it takes to make the job a success. No negative, stinky attitudes allowed! 7. COMMUNICATION IS EVERYTHING – It is their job to make dealing with them as stress-free for their clients as possible. This means to communicate, communicate, communicate. They keep their clients constantly updated on their progress, so doubts and worries don’t ever creep in. This is the basis for forming long-term relationships where their clients can trust them to deliver the goods. When they have new clients that might be treading with trepidation, they hold their hand and guide them through by explaining what is expected of them at each step of the way. 8. ATTENTION TO DETAIL – There is nothing worse than launching a campaign to notice a spelling mistake in a shiny, new marketing asset that has just gone live to the public. Sometimes mistakes fall through the cracks, but they strive to double-check their work to ensure that spelling errors, flash frames, and other gremlins don’t make their way into final deliverables. Target Market: They mostly work with corporate and marketing departments at medium to large companies across various industries. Company’s Internal Objectives related to innovation, customer service, and operational excellence: Invest a certain amount in innovation Investing on Great customer service Streamline core business processes A customer’s review: Reliable products/services Best Service Understands my needs Benefits to Employees: Positive Work Environment Effective Communication Job Security Freedom in the Workplace Community / Society Service: They have worked with a number of non-profit organizations to create videos and design materials to assist in their fundraising efforts. They are also regular sponsors of events like awards galas and golf days at their local chamber of commerce.

They are here to resolve some of the biggest stresses for businesses by helping to generate more leads, sales, and customers. One of their clients called Classic Bike Parts Cheshire, which sells high-quality motorcycle parts, had an overinflated PPC campaign with 50 ad groups before they came to them. Classic Bike Parts wanted to receive more relevant traffic to their website to increase conversions. After doing some research, they found that only 2 out of the 50 were profitable, it was also heavily automated. This was a problem as both issues were seriously impacting profitability for Classic Bike Parts, so they needed to alter the strategy to work and achieve successful results. Solution- After analyzing the results for Classic Bike Parts, they closed down 48 out of 50 of their advertisements. They understood what a good lead was for the client which defined their expectations from the clients that visited their website. They analyzed the market and refined the 2 adverts based on the client’s preferable lead, competition, and targeting relevant clients that are more likely to generate business. The adverts needed to be optimized with the right keywords to target people searching for the relevant topics and to increase the traffic to the new website. AdWords pay-per-click helped to increase the awareness of the targeted clientele about the website by advertising when the user searched for terms that were relevant to the company and its products. Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Anubha Singhai: Being in the field of Physiotherapy since last 15 years, Me and my husband, Anant realised that the Physiotherapy services are scattered, and not patient centric. • Sajan Mathews Thomas, Founder & Childlike at MySunar Jewels Private Limited

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Sajan Mathew: Every Girl child has to mandatorily go through the procedure of ear-piercing. Ear-Piercing when performed at an early age has health benefits. This is a lesser known fact among the parent community. The procedure of Children’s Ear-Piercing in its current state is unhygienic and unorganised. That’s adding to discomfort in parents. Secondly, the Sunars (Goldmisth) are loosing their traditional piercing skills (the healthier method) to the contemporary method. The idea was born. Through this we wish to address; A) Safe ear-piercing practices for children’s health benefits B) Create earning opportunities for Goldsmiths by reviving the traditional method. Great Companies: What are the various services provided by MySunar Jewels Private Limited? Sajan Mathew: Phase-1 (Currently): Medicated Ear Piercing product for beginners Clinical procedure and traditional piercing services at home Post piercing care of 3.5 weeks from the day of piercing to ensure a safety net for parents during the recovery period. Phase-2: Under 10k Skin friendly jewellery Phase-3: Piercing “experience” stores Phase-4: Platform on parenting (story telling subjects) Great Companies: What makes MySunar Jewels Private Limited different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Sajan Mathew: We are the first mover’s in baby Ear-Piercing services with safe practices. We have carved out a new industry because of the health benefits it adds to a child and comfort it could add to a parent. Our competitors are Jewellers. However, ear-piercing product and services is not their core offering and therefore lack the attention required on safety and service experience. Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face? Sajan Mathew: Internal Struggle/Challenge no.1 - Covid (As we had quit our corporate career in Jan20, we were left with no choice but to go ahead with the launch in Dec20 ) Struggle/Challenge no.2 - The longer gestation period in the business made my Co-founder to go back to the corporate world. External Struggle/Challenge no.3 - Creating awareness among the parent community on the benefits of traditional piercing over the contemporary method. Struggle/Challenge no.4 - Justifying our cost to serve a customer. Struggle/Challenge no.5 - We were lesser known, so sometimes trust issues. We could overcome these through my learnings from the past (corporate career) and our single biggest focus on the end Goal. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What do 5 years down the line look like for MySunar Jewels Private Limited? Sajan Mathew: Our Phase-1 growth should come organically (Search engines and References). This is WIP Our Phase-2 launch is in progress as we speak with a go-live date of 2nd October 22. Both of the above will help us build in-roads in to customer home and win their love and trust. Phase-3 and 4 will follow in 23/24. By Dec 2025 we want to be in the Top-3 “baby” brand in the country. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Sajan Mathew: If you have made up your mind to start-up, then be restless to make it work and avoid a Plan-B from the beginning. (Of course do your math's, run your numbers on the current liabilities and responsibilities to pull the right gear at the right time) Website: https://mysunar.com/ Social Media: Facebook | Instagram | LinkedIn | YouTube

  • Dr Shabnam Asthana, Founder Director at Empowered Solutions

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Dr Shabnam Asthana: I had been working in senior positions in reputed corporates both Internationally and within India in the Public Relations and Communications field. With the immense amount of goodwill coupled with my own talent and expertise which I had amassed during my long and productive tenure, I realised that setting up my own firm where I could tap more corporates instead of being limited to one company would be a good idea. The canvas of Public Relations and communications is very wide and gives room for a lot of experimentation and creativity which can only happen with multiple client companies and the risk of stagnation that one would face by staying restricted or limited to just one company gets considerably diminished if not completely ruled out. For us each client is unique and our services are tailor made to suit their requirements. We do not offer standard solutions, but innovate and create a unique value proposition for every client to meet and even surpass their needs. I am a “hands on” leader and accessible 24x7 to any of my clients irrespective of their designation or company size. We also offer intangible benefits, be it in the client and company relationship aspect, the value additions or goodwill factor but most of our clients are for keeps. We strive very hard to maintain client loyalty in this dynamic and competitive world. I am proud and happy to say that my team and I have been largely successful in this regard. Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face? Dr Shabnam Asthana: I count myself lucky when I say that I was blessed and did not face very difficult challenges in my journey so far. It has been more or less smooth sailing, but if I were to go back to my initial days of the company inception, I would say that probably the biggest challenge was to convince potential clients that I could do a good job as a start-up, minus the halo of my previous designation or corporate back up. Several meetings were needed to convince them but eventually things turned out in my favour. The next challenge was employee recruitment for a start-up during 2005 which came with its’ inherent risks of high attrition rates and high salary expectations, which I too encountered in fair measure. I always had a plan B line of action ready to surmount employee resignations and sudden absences so that my regular and routine activities would not get disrupted. I ensured a transparency of communication, for those who harboured unrealistic salary expectations and they were never recruited and any resulting complications were thus successfully avoided. In the present days I perceive a shift in expectations as start-ups excite new entrants, and this is surely a positive development. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What do 5 years down the line look like for Empowered Solutions? Dr Shabnam Asthana: Constant Innovation, upgradation of knowledge, sharpening of responses and striving to maintain client loyalty is important for our competitive edge and growth. Five years down the line should see the spirit of satisfaction and immense goodwill looming larger on Empowered Solutions by continuing to gather more strength day by day, year by year. I also visualise fructification of our hard work and talent towards the expansion of our overseas offices in North America. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Dr Shabnam Asthana: I would say that if you started with a purpose keep your mind and actions focused on that purpose, through the strength of your conviction by keeping your head and values held high throughout your journey never allowing either your enthusiasm or the start-up spirit to wane!

  • FLOA Education

Website : www.floa.education Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? FLOA Education: In India we have schools which are run under various education boards like - ICSE, IGCSE, CBSE, State Board as well as Government Universities, Deemed Universities, etc. We have private unaided schools / colleges, aided schools / colleges, ZP Schools, Municipal Corporation school, etc. Primary education of subjects like History, Geography, English, Mathematics, Science, Hindi, etc. is available across the country. The quality of education offered depends upon the financial capacity of the parent. Study of Foreign Languages is the only subject which is unavailable to students coming from all social and financial backgrounds. Foreign Languages are part of the curriculum in very few schools in the urban areas and its external study is also not affordable to everyone. We found this gap and started working on a project to make foreign language education available and affordable to every student irrespective of their socio-economic status. Great Companies: What are the various services provided by FLOA Education? FLOA Education: We are a Education Software Company. We offer various software required in the education sector. Our Foreign Language Education Software is very well appreciated and is implemented in 200+ schools and a few colleges, companies from 10 states of India. English Medium, Semi English, Hindi Medium, Marathi Medium, Urdu Medium, etc. schools / colleges from CBSE, ICSE, State Board, ZP Schools, Municipal Corporation Schools as well as Engineering Colleges, Polytechnic Colleges, etc are registered with us and are implementing this application for their student / adult candidates. Great Companies: What makes FLOA Education different from hundreds of other similar service providers? FLOA Education: We are here to provide knowledge of those subjects which are not available in mainstream education. Especially foreign language education is the need of time. Normally the students get to know about many opportunities once they start attending senior college after 12th std. We feel it is too late. If the students are introduced to a foreign language at early stages it will help them get some direction for their career. We have made foreign language education available at an affordable cost. The study material that we provide is completely free of cost and we charge only exam fees which are very nominal. Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face? FLOA Education: The most important thing was funding for this kind of an activity. Though we are not an NGO, we function like one. Our autonomous syllabus study material is in the form of recorded videos and downloadable PDF booklets. Finding language professionals who are comfortable facing a camera was the second task. Creating the content was overall a huge responsibility which needed great teamwork. Though the exams fees are the same for all students, we drive this in 3 different categories depending upon the school type. For those schools which already have foreign language as a part of their curriculum, this is a competitive exam based on the autonomous syllabus provided by FLOA. For the old English Medium schools and CBSE Schools in the outskirts of every city we provide this as an opportunity based project for students. And for the underprivileged students we drive it with the help of social organizations like Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs, Inner Wheel Clubs and other such NGOs, etc. where these social organizations create an awareness amongst the students and if required also sponsor the exam fees for these students. CSR Funding is also one support that we are desperately looking for to support our initiative. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What do 5 years down the line look like for FLOA Education? FLOA Education: The process was a little slow during the Covid days, as the entire education system was running online. Additionally this online course felt like a burden on top. But now the schools are welcoming us and are implementing it at a large scale. Teachers are also enrolling with us and benefiting from the same. 5 years down the line we target 1,00,000 educational institutes implementing this and maximum students from all socio-economic backgrounds should be learning the basics of foreign languages. Creating lakhs of success stories is the dream we see with open eyes. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? FLOA Education: It is really difficult to create your own product and stand out in the market. There will be a lot of ups and downs but stay strong with your idea, believe in your vision and keep pushing yourself to achieve your goal. Track your business activities weekly. This actually gives you a better understanding of the difference between your current situation and the goal to be achieved. Avoid irresistible expensive show-offs. Take wise decisions, Keep working hard and don't give up.

  • Shubham Sharma, CEO and Founder at The Research Industry

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Shubham Sharma: From the very young age, I was a very curious and hardworking person and always have had this knack of learning, to learn about new things, products, applications, etc. So, after completing my school I started working with one of the premier chemical company of Jaipur that manufactures various chemical products. During my working period, I realized that the company is facing challenges with the turnaround time in processing its chemical products for the end user industry which resulted in a loss of numerous clients, even few of my HVDs, so I and other business developers with the help of management onboarded a professional R&D team from Bangalore who not only improved the quality of our product but reduce the T.A.T time by almost 10 hours and this resulted in getting an edge over our competition as our products are just the best in quality but can be faster to be used by end user industries. Now, at this point I realized when a small R&D team can do wonders for a manufacturing company then there will be 1000s of other companies who are looking for market researches. So in view of the same I started with my own venture “The Research Industry” to provide end-to-end market research services to various industries across the globe so as to enable them to explore the growth opportunities available in the market, understand competition landscape, analyse how current technologies and applications are getting disrupted with the growing adoption of new and effective advanced technologies to enable them to achieve economies of scale. Great Companies: What are the various services provided by The Research Industry? Shubham Sharma: “The Research Industry” offers four different types of services: 1) Syndicate Market Research Report: This is the flagship service of our company. Our off-the-shelf market report covers in-depth qualitative & quantitative analysis of the high growing niche markets providing market data & forecast, Competitive Landscape, trends & Growth dynamics helping CXOs identify the future potential market opportunities, market disruptions, also helping in implementing strategies to achieve them. 2) Custom Research: We have always strived hard to deliver maximum value proposition to our clients & to ensure that we have a dedicated team of our professional research analysts who cater the clients with their specific needs. 3) Consulting Services: Due to constant advancements in technologies & applications the markets have become more volatile than ever before and thus companies strive hard in implementing changes. Thus, here our specialized consulting team works side by side with the companies helping them in identifying the potential future opportunities & challenges, also helps them in formulating & implementing the strategies to achieve their goals Cross Segment Analysis Market Lucrativeness & Entry Services Exploring Potential Partners, Merger & Acquisition Services Consumer Strategy & Distribution Network 4) Analysts Support: We provide each of our client with the Analyst support, this service helps them in understanding in depth knowledge of Market behaviour, Penetration rates, Answers to Competition based questions, Product & Application assessment, Regional & Country level-based analysis, etc. Great Companies: What makes The Research Industry different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Shubham Sharma: I started “The Research Industry” with a vision to offer our clients maximum value proposition on their investments. Thus, I am highlighting few of major differences which I feel none other companies do and even if they do, they certainly do not go such an extent and this makes our company “Standout” from our competition. 1) Made-to-Order: In this model we offer our clients a completely new market research report. The data and numbers provided are fresh and updated this support our clients in their analyses, research decisions, proposals, presentations and business plans. 2) Maximum Value Proposition: Like you must have heard this specific “word” several times in my interview. The reality is this helps us in retaining our client’s trust. Our business with clients does not end with only delivering the market research report but “we continue our engagement with the client to affirm that what we provided is what our client has expected from us”, we make sure that we gratify each of client’s queries and doubts thus leaving them fully satisfied with our services. 3) 6-Month Support: Our post sale services end with this model, wherein if we track that there is a major disruption within the 6 months of delivery our market research report then we offer our clients an updated market research report (inclusive of the trend that might hamper the current revenue sources of our clients) Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face? Shubham Sharma: “The Research Industry (TRI)” is a bootstrap start-up, I did not took any money from my parents or relatives, it was all of my savings that I poured in to start this venture, Thus, I believe not having enough resources to support a venture that would be engaging with the global clients is major setback. I lost so many clients certainly because I do not have enough proper sample resources, could not run my marketing initiatives due to lower budgets and could not even onboard experienced personnel due to their higher wages requirements which led me to opt for cheap/low experienced substitutes and ultimately I could not scale my business. 2) Secondly, I feel I got into the business at a very early stage, I was pretty naïve when I entered though I have the basic knowledge but I certainly failed to connect the two ends in the beginning and this led to loss of several HVDs. Though, with the time I got the expertise and we are a pretty good track now but still till today I feel even I had a good amount of experience I could have taken my start-up to a whole different level by today. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What do 5 years down the line look like for The Research Industry? Shubham Sharma: We are working on our flagship product i.e. a platform which will be a library for all the market research reports of all industries. Not only this, the AI-powered platform will show how new technologies and applications like AI, IOT, Blockchain, Big Data, Metaverse, etc will be impacting the current working model of industries, making their work processes more effective and efficient in the coming time period. Though, this platform is still in the planning phase and will be launched for our customers by end of first quarter of 2023. Moreover, we are currently more focused on increasing our customer base and strengthen our core services so that we can tie-up with certain government organizations and help them in their research needs. We have a great start in this financial year and we have signed as permanent vendors to several premier Global and Domestic firms operating in different Industries thus if we can maintain the same growth, I believe in coming 5 years we can expect to be among the top 20 market research companies of India. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Shubham Sharma: There will be hardships, shortfalls, I mean you will feel like you had enough, the corporate job is worth more than running your own company but to my dear friends the company that is offering that job was once a start-up only and they began from somewhere they had the same difficulties then that you are facing now and to be honest they did not even had the resources that are available to us today. Thus, keep on working till you get that first sale because once you have it, you will get the motivation to thrive and earn more. I mentioned this sentence to several young people “Anyone can score 99/100 but the world will stand and clap for only those who will score 100/100”.

  • Debarya Dutta, CEO, Co-founder at Upraised

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Debarya dutta: I was a student HR intern myself and was just graduating out of college, when I noticed the huge problem that lies in the talent acquisition domain. Debarya dutta: Never lose faith in your idea and yourself. There will be a lot of obstacles that come in your way and a lot of reasons to drop off midway, but it's at that point that you need to make your dream and ambition the greater priority than the easy way out.

  • Ahmed Janabi, CEO at Harf

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? Ahmed Janabi: Iraq is a 40 million population country with polarised politically-polluted media. Seeing how the public is negatively affected by media needs a stance by local people to have their word in both digital and traditional press. The idea was to create an independent local company to provide services for companies and individuals who want to communicate adequately with the media. As Iraqis have lived through the wars, sanctions, and the rise of ISIS. We have seen the effects of political and media polarisation on the public, and I believe it is crucial to have a voice or, better said: a “remote control”. It is in this spirit that Harf was created: to encourage people and brands to speak up when they see injustice or unfairness and to use their voices to make positive changes for themselves and others. The concept was born from my personal experience as an entrepreneur and my five years of experience working in the fields of medicine and youth engagement before uplifting Harf’s advertising company. Harf was a traditional family business that we worked to develop into the one & only local communications agency in Iraq. I saw first-hand how difficult it was for people to get their voices heard in Iraq because of all the corruption going on within the media outlets at the time, and so I decided that something had to be done about it! Great Companies: What are the various services provided by Harf? Ahmed Janabi: Harf provides a wide range of services, including marketing communications, public relations, event management, reputation management, crisis management, creative management, digital and legacy media buying, on-ground activation, lobbying and trendsetting. Our team of professionals is committed to providing you with the highest ‘possible’ levels of expertise in each of these areas so that you can be sure your business is well represented in the industry. We help our clients build their brands through different forms of communication and engagement. We mainly focus on public relations, lobbying and trendsetting. Public relations—we help our clients manage their public image by ensuring that they’re always putting their best foot forward. This includes crisis management, reputation management, and creative management. We also work with our clients to set the tone for their brand, so it’s always consistent across all media. Event management—we make event planning easy! We take care of everything from venue selection to booking entertainment and speakers. We even have in-house AV equipment that is low-key enough to fit into any budget or theme but high-end sufficient to impress clients. Reputation management—as a company, we believe that our clients’ reputations should always be at the forefront of what we do. So, we use every opportunity we get to promote them in a positive light, whether it’s through social media or traditional media outlets. Crisis management—when things don’t go according to plan, we’re there for you! Whether it’s an emergency press release or helping you recover from a scandalous situation, we’ve got your back 24/7 so that you can focus on what really matters most: your customers and employees! Great Companies: What makes Harf different from hundreds of other similar service providers? Ahmed Janabi: The answer is the mindset, philosophy, hard work, and passion. Harf’s mindset is that we are service providers, not go-get companies. We believe that our job isn’t just to provide services to our clients—it’s to make them feel like they’re part of a family. Our philosophy is simple: do what you say you’ll do when you say it will be done. We believe that when you do this consistently, trust builds between our clients and us. The more trust we have with them, the more they will want to work with us again and again because they know we can be counted on when it matters most. Hard work comes naturally to us—we’re always striving to improve ourselves and our services so that we can continue to meet the needs of our clients over time while also staying competitive in an ever-changing industry landscape. Passion fuels everything we do at Harf—we are passionate about helping people succeed in their careers by providing them with the tools needed for success. That meant working hard at understanding what they needed and spending hours making sure that everything was perfect before handing it off. It meant staying up late on weekends and holidays just so that we could get everything done—because we knew it would make a difference for our clients. And it meant having an open mind about new ideas or processes that might help us become even better than we already are. Harf’s passion for their clients and their devotion to their craft show in every product they make. It is clear that they are not just doing this for money or fame, but because they love what they do and want to see people enjoy their products as much as they do! Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face? Ahmed Janabi: One of the biggest challenges I faced when relaunching Harf was convincing clients that local minds could work better than big foreign companies in Iraq because local talents understand locals. People believed that only large corporations possessed the resources and power to deliver effective solutions, so I had to overcome this hurdle by proving them wrong. The other challenge was that people did not value the time spent on their accounts. Hiring a great team means investing more than what clients pay for, but they do not see it as an investment—they see it as a cost. The industry has been a challenge since the beginning. It is not just about the work, but it is about proving to clients that local minds can do better than what big companies do. The other challenge is that people do not value your time, especially when you are working with them for free. Hiring a great team means investing more than what clients pay for; this does not happen overnight. It takes time to prove everything but eventually, nobody knows Iraq better than the people living inside it. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What do 5 years down the line look like for Harf? Ahmed Janabi: In the future, I see Harf as an entirely decentralised company. We are already on the path to doing this, but I’d like for it to be a partially decentralised entity within 5 years. We will also be expanding into AI and metaverse technology moving forward. We’ll partner with tech companies in those fields to help us reach our goals of improving our users’ experiences and making them more immersive. In the future, we see ourselves in a metaverse where every platform is on the blockchain. It’s a world where data is more secure, and users have more control over their own information. It’s also a world where we can create our virtual realities, be they social media or gaming platforms. We think this will allow us to reach out to people who traditional media would otherwise leave behind. Harf is developing a new social media platform that will be the first to use blockchain technology. We believe that media was the first industry to be decentralised, and we’re building our platform to reflect that. Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? Ahmed Janabi: If I had to give one piece of advice to someone just starting out in the field, it would be this: Go the hard way. Never try to find shortcuts! Shortcuts will eventually come your way if you persevere. The more you invest in yourself and your skills, the better off you’ll be in the long run. And it’s not just about what you do; it’s about who you do it for. The more people you work with, the more connections you make, and the more opportunities you have to work with them again later on down the road. It’s easy to get caught up in doing things that will pay off immediately—and sometimes they will! But if something doesn’t pay off right away, remember that it might be later down the line when your career is taking off. And even if it doesn’t come back around again… who cares? The point is that these relationships you’ve built along the way will last forever. Go the hard way. Never try to find shortcuts. The more you invest in yourself, the better your relations, not the other way around. Life is short: Always be authentic.

  • TIJAY GUPTA, CO FOUNDER & COO at BACHPAN & AHPS GROUP OF SCHOOLS

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business? TIJAY GUPTA: Back in 2004, preschools and even formal schools were not seen as necessities for a better future. Education was still considered to be a luxury by most people, much to our dismay. Also, I think that the trend of entrepreneurship may have begun in recent times, but it was never a thing unknown. There was no set curriculum, there were hardly any extra-curricular activities, there were no proper school rules and regulations, there were no training sessions for teachers, there was no upgradation in books, and there were no efforts for parental involvement in children's learning—This is all to say that there were gaps, quite a few, and concepts, entrepreneurship, and businesses always arise to fill those gaps to make national progress happen. So did we! Great Companies: What are the various services provided by BACHPAN & AHPS GROUP OF SCHOOLS? TIJAY GUPTA: At Bachpan and AHPS Group of Schools, we aim at providing the best-quality education to all children. Our young generations are the future of our country and if that future is not prepared well enough, our country may not transform from a developing country to a developed one! Hence, to make our students future-ready, we deliver various learning technologies such as Speak-O-Kit (at Bachpan), Robotime, Virtual Reality (VR), and Smart Classes. We provide regular training to our teachers so that they stay updated with teaching methodologies. We also come up with many different kinds of programs for our students, like Decode Startups and AHPS Mega Competitions. Great Companies: What makes BACHPAN & AHPS GROUP OF SCHOOLS different from hundreds of other similar service providers? TIJAY GUPTA: What makes our Bachpan and AHPS Group of Schools different from others is that the process of research and innovative development is always ongoing for us. We never stop at excellence because there is always room for something greater than that! AHPS Mega Competitions, for example, are held annually and that too on a national level. I do not think that students are given such a grand platform on such a grand scale anywhere else to emerge victorious in different competitions. But then we also came up with Decode Startups for our students and started to instill a spirit of entrepreneurship in them as well as a desire for lifelong success. We also teach Robotic Skills to our students and make STEM concepts easy for them. All in all, I believe that our ultra-modern initiatives make us stand out! Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face? TIJAY GUPTA: When someone wants to identify the gaps and address them, there are challenges because people are generally skeptical of changes. While establishing Bachpan as a leading preschool chain, the significance of preschool education had to be emphasized. It had to be shown how preschool education makes a difference in a child's life and how preschools are more than day-care centres. We persevered, we brought about visible changes in every student through our technologies and Montessori play-way methods, and this is how we overcame the initial skepticism with our commitment to quality education. Garnering the trust of Bachpan made it quite easy for us to venture into formal education, for which we feel privileged. Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What do 5 years down the line look like for BACHPAN & AHPS GROUP OF SCHOOLS? TIJAY GUPTA: Change is constant, but growth might not be! I firmly adhere to this belief that if we want to grow, we have to make constant efforts for it, and growth does not come easy like change. Our deep regard for research and development and staying ahead of time is what I see as the foundation of our growth in the future. Five years down the line, we at Bachpan and AHPS Group of Schools aim to strengthen our franchise network and make it even more impactful. We aspire to introduce many more advanced programs and launch remarkable initiatives for our students. Also, we never know what we may surprise ourselves with, five years from now! Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be? TIJAY GUPTA: Keep going on and never give up. I understand there will be confusions, indecisions, failures, and lack of self-confidence at times, but when you keep going on despite these and do not give up on your ambitions, confusions dissolve, indecisions start to make sense, failures turn into victories, and self-confidence comes back eventually. It's your undying attitude and determination that matters more than anything.
