What challenges have you overcome to reach where you are now
I have encountered numerous challenges during my entrepreneurship journey. I would broadly categorise them into personal and professional challenges. On the professional front, the choice between a cushy and lucrative corporate job versus a financially and emotionally difficult journey of entrepreneurship has been one of the biggest decisions of my life. Coming from a family background where everyone around have been high achievers and in corporate / government jobs, there was dissent and resistance towards my entrepreneurship decision. Coming from a modest background, not having a steady income flow each month was a challenge, while I saw my peers rapidly scale up the corporate ladder. Having to work doubly hard to make my presence felt in a profession dominated by males and having to get over the perceptions of "Oh she looks too young to have the skillsets to negotiate and close deals in favour of her client", made the journey difficult yet extremely rewarding. It was extremely satisfying to see the appreciation in the eyes of peers, juniors, seniors and clients every time I successfully closed a deal. Personally, having to balance being a wife to a husband who has rapidly climbed up in his career and made waves, mother to a boisterous daughter and having to leave her at home while I travel to work has tugged my heart every single time I step out of the house, daughter to extremely ambitious and career oriented parents, a good daughter in law who can make nice round rotis and chai, was a huge challenge. Health issues cropped up because of work stress and work load, having to put my love for dance on the back burner for my work ambition and yet come out successful on all fronts with an occasional singing and dancing performance at the same is nothing but a feat I have managed to achieve !
What message you want give for other aspiring women entrepreneurs
Dream..dream hard..dream high..inspire yourself because no one else will inspire you. The Glass ceiling exists in your head...shatter it ! Believe you can..believe you will and believe you have achieved your goals. Only then you will reach higher than you every have imagined. Give high priority to mental and physical health. Progressing in your career is important but not at your own cost. Nothing is worth compromising your self respect..everything you do, do it with your head held high and conviction set in stone. The most important - STAY GROUNDED. EXPERIMENT. TAKE RISKS. ENJOY THE JOURNEY.
To what do you attribute your success
Hard work, perseverance and belief in myself and my abilities. My value system ingrained within in because of my Parents which demonstrates high integrity, accountability and conviction.
