Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
Nupur Singh: It is said a lot can happen over a few cups of coffee. And GearBox Media is a live example of that. Two young professionals from the Public Relations sector, who had seen it all and gathered enough PR success recipes, decided to establish a one-stop place for modern day Public Relation needs. And over the last few years, The GearBox Media has worked with some of the leading brands and personalities. The company has been cofounded and run jointly by Nupur Singh and Akash Kumar.
Today, The GearBox Media has clients across every sector. While we have strived for new opportunities, we have always gathered strength from our past successes. From handling marquee events to tackling the brand promotion and reputation management needs of our clients, we have done it all! Our strong relations with the media houses (both print and digital ones) have obviously eased our work.

Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face?
Nupur Singh: The compliment that we get most often is about our agility and being able to quickly adapt to the changing business needs of our clients. We have been available for our clients round the clock and even on weekends. Its not something that is very praiseworthy because it takes a toll on your work-life balance. But being a small agency, we have always kept our clients a priority and delivered as much as we could.
When working with a small team, resource planning and allocation can be tedious. But what's different in it, right? Every small PR agency has such things to say, you must be assuming. Every growing PR agency thinks of getting more business and expanding its team accordingly and becoming a bigger 'family' with every passing year. Though we have a good amount of business coming in, we never went out with a dream of getting out there with a big fancy office and a huge team. Having worked in PR companies before, we were well aware of the unreliability that a new employee comes in with. For the beginners in PR, swift changes in the companies for better remuneration is now an expected move. We started off accordingly. From our prior experience we had a lot of media contacts in India across sectors that we were leveraging, and as we grew rather than hiring new employees, we empanelled various seasoned associated across India. With these associates, we were not only relaxed in terms of stability but also results. What was a cherry on the cake was the low-cost solutions that we had at hand? While some associates worked only for specific projects, some worked as an extended team for retainer clients.
One thing that we have always focussed on is that we sign a proper legal agreement with whichever associate that we work with so that there is no issue later.

It is overwhelming to see the leap of faith and courage that the youngsters of today are taking. It is commendable. The only key to success is to be persistent and consistent; both are interdependent.
