Darshan Thakkar: Childhood only, there was an ambition to do business. After visiting the success story of successful entrepreneur and grabbing a potential confidence on the work in educated field. It has been decided to commence an own business. Brief is :
I came up with an idea to commence a business while entering a diploma engineering 2004. After successful completion of diploma engineering with distinction, I entered in to bachelors of engineering in 2007 and completed the same in 2011 with distinction. After completion of successful engineering, I appointed as a trainee engineer in one of leading engineering industries. As year goes, I learned various engineering and managerial activity, which I have studied in my engineering tenure. After turning the various face of designation like , Production engineer, QC engineer, Design engineer, and project engineer, achieved 5 years of rich experience in the corporate word in same industry. After having such potential experience thought to commence own business with partnership. In which I utilize my engineering expertise and other partner will take care of commercial activity. Did partnership business around 1.5 years. During this partnership tenure I learned lots techno-commercial activity as an entrepreneur and met with numbers of successful entrepreneurs and start-up. After having such potential experience got a confidence and thought to commence own private limited organization. Henceforth came up with the GMDT in 2017.

Darshan Thakkar: As journey started with two thousand rupees only, had to suffer numbers of phases. As a new comer in the market, we couldn’t show credentials as well as satisfactory clients. Due to this, some clients were objecting to give an order. Same way supplier was also asking for an advance payment. Following are the challenges I had to cross:
Government Regulations.
Federal Income Taxes.
The Economy.
Tax Compliance.
Cash Flow.
Staying Passionate.
Not Diversifying Client Bases.
Growth vs. Quality
Hiring New Employees etc.
As a small business owner, realizing this one insight is essential for maintaining a calm head: our competitors face the same problems as i do. All of us, regardless of the industry we’re in, are essentially in the same boat. How i respond to these challenges will change the “game” – as i became more successful, thereby leaving our rivals by the wayside. It’s important to remember that these challenges are just that – challenges and we do overcome them.
Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for GMDT Marine & Industrial Engineering Pvt. Ltd?
Darshan Thakkar: We aspire to become India’s largest power solutions supplier in India and Overseas market in the Marine and Industrial segment custom build engineering products and will cross 100 Cr. Business in couples of years.
Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?
Darshan Thakkar: Self Confidence. And understanding what customers want. Being flexible to adapt quickly when things don't go as planned. Relying on yourself for decision-making and seeking out mentors and advisors who have been successful entrepreneurs before — may offer valuable insights into how they built their company from scratch.
